More veg time bigger plant???

So heres my set up for second grow. 10 seeds from amsterdam. Cant remember the strains need to get them.
Anyway
1000 watt hps
hung down to about two feet away from the plants hanging down pointed towards the ground.
I plan on vegging for ten weeks after germination then cloning then flowering.
Also I am using roots organic dirt ( and the whole line of roots nutrients ) ten gallon bags so no need for pots just polk holes n plant in ten gallon. What ya guys think. I also am planning on leaving the grow tents door open the whole time to cut down on temperature since I cannot afford a cool tube. More veg time makes a bigger plant correct??

When you switch to flower the should at least double in size and some strains can triple in size, so the bigger it is in veg the bigger it will be in flower, also helps with planning how much room you'll need to finish growing the plant.

Make sure you have at least an 8 foot ceiling, because they're going to be 5 foot+, unless you do lot's of training. I veg for 4 weeks and end up with plants that are over 3',(topped 2-3 times) and they are indicas. Beware of sativas, unless you are growing in a cathedral with 12'+ ceilings.LOL

during veg I would swap the 1k for some 30+w cfl's. Your wasting tons and tons of light not to mention electric pumping a 1k hps on 10x seedlings.(your light's output does also decrease with usage). 6 30+w 5500k cfl's will do the trick for you and you can get the cfl's up nice and snug durring veg. Your plants should show sex within the first 5 weeks (most times in around 3 weeks calyx's start to appear at the nodes as the plant reaches sexual maturity).

I usually do the following when starting a new mother.

Top plant when it gets to 3'rd node. (half ass top it, a FIM per say who knows maybe youll get 10x top branches).

When each lower branch gets to its 3rd node top it & crop the branch over (so looking down first and second nodes branches look like a +) the top nodes branches just crop in a circle around the stem. keep topping and cropping after every few nodes worth of growth.

Depending on how fast your strain grows you can end up with a 2x' round monster way less time than 10 weeks

If once you start flowing you get a little scared of the stretch you can use some bushmaster.
