you have the right light,you said in the first post that you where using a hps for flowering.I would use the cfls on the side or bottom during the flowerin.Use a red light spectrum bulb(hps) if you have blue,most hydro stores sell red to switch out,then switch back for veggin.
make sure you use 12/12 light in flower and either 24 on or 18/6 for veg.
ph water and give some nutrients,them buds will love that.

well men Im truly sorry if I am wrong... But I beg to differ...If you are going to PROPERLY grow bud you would grow it under the right circumstances, and lighting for the best product and yield...now you can disagree with me if you want, thats fine, but im my experience and research knowledge I am going to express the CORRECT and most ethical means of growing a GOOD product. anyone can grow weed in shitty enviornment with shittly lighting and possibly get some bud out of it...and MAYBE ok quality...In my defense(not that I need one research works wonders) I would like to project the proper means to growing in an enviornment that is closest to growing under natural conditions(outside.sun, etc) so you all may agree to disagree and thats fine BUT before you start sending mixed messages to new growers you should explain how to do it correctly FIRST then let said growers experment for thmeselfs and figure out other means ...smoke on....peace

For all you who do not know (lumberjack, billybob) I hope this will help you ...
when your flowering the proper lighting would be ..HPS(high pressure sodium red/orange spectrum)
When you vegging the proper lighting would be...MH(metal halid, blue side of spectrum)

when using 400watt HPS/MH or better keep lighting about 14 inches away If you are using cfl you should keep the light right about the plant like 1-3 inches away any further away would be useless with that type of lighting.

I hope this clears some qustions that some of u may have had. I know that it may seem confusing at times but what I suggest is continue doing research, you can never do enought research and whatever question that ou may have im sure has been asked before and is in this forum somewhere. Take advantage of a great websit as this one rollitup is GREAT and take advantage of it..smoke on..peace....

trust me, i certainly know the *proper* lighting for each stage of growth
i was merely pointing out that really good bud can be grown with an mh bulb (they do put out light in the red spectrum... just not a whole lot... you have seen the spectrum graphs, right?)

... i wasn't even belittling in my post, jeez

lumberjack I apoligize my reply was made for a two fold purpose one was to reflect the proper use of lighting aand the other was a retalition to u agreeing with someone that I was WRONG in writing what I wrote about lighting which I wasnt wrong.. I neve rsaid that you couldnt grow under different circumstances and lighting ..I just stated the proper way and proper lighting for great grows...smoke on my bro and again ..Im sry..smoke on ..peace..

yes all the information that was posted has been taken into consideration. heres the outcome, i have a orange/red spectrum bulb so im using the right light for flowering, i am still thinking about using the cfls. mabey next grow. its only 1 plant for 400w. and its surrounded by mylar survival blankets so no light is lost. ill just wait and see what happens by the 14th of dec since thats when my harvest is planned. thanks for all the responses!

the sun puts out 10,000 lumens/sq ft. yeah that fucking sucks man! 10,000 lumens/sq ft. thats newb shit. lol
