To Flush or Not to Flush

So about 90% of the things I read say that for the last two weeks you should give your plant nothing but water. During this time the fan leaves will turn yellow and fall off.....

But every now and then I come across someone that swears by nutes till the end.

I understand there will be a difference in flavor, but what other differences are there, does giving nutes till the end increase yield?

Flushing or more correctly starving a plant IMO has no benefits in Soil other than as a precaution after overfeeding to wash out a high salt build up with chemical nutrients.
Other than that, its a waste of time. There have been experiments conducted regarding soil leeching & they all say the same thing.
Feeding the plant only water in the final weeks, of course will lead to an inferior product compared to what each plant is actually capable of producing within its genetic potential, especially less psycoactivity and potency, much more CBD and CBN, less THC, less turpenes and finally lower final crop weight. Running on just water to achieve some kind of magical reverse osmosis of excess nutes via the roots is just a myth. A funny one too when you think about it.

No doubt someone will come along & try to tell us about flushing out Fish or bat guano taste from their bud... pay no mind to them.

i am using hesi products, which are not organic, the main thing i am interested in is maximizing my yield, i dont care so much for the flavor.

should i feed nutes till the end?

why would you do one thing for organics and another for chems?

plant does not care where it gets food from, organic or chem is all the same to the plant

you can not flush anything out of it, plant is not a toilet

taste is all about how you cure it, they say it needs to burn clean and smooth all grey ash, well mine does that and I fed to the end

I flush throughout it's how I water, cause I understand how the flushing myth was started and how it mutated, totally explain in my NooB Advice thread

...after considering the responses to your question, I've been looking into it a little more. I above stated that you should only flush if your using chemicals...and do not flush if your using orgainics.

...it takes upto 28 days for the mobile elements to transfer form the rootzone to the bud <<< that's just hard science.... that's my understanding....and I'm sticking to it....to continue to fertilize after the last couple weeks of bloom are a waste of $.... IMO....and again...IMO. I don't flush I leach, and it's not for taste. The only benefit I read of concerning flushing is to improve the taste...and that is debated. Nowere have I seen flush related to yield. Unless you were to stress your plant with your flushing method....and as we know stress does effect your yield.

...if your looking to increase your yield, try using co2, get more lights. Theirs many of factors besides the fertilizing that influance the yeild.

You could fertilize up to harvest, but why?
It won't help you.

If your using soil you should do a flush at a week before harvest to remove EXCESS salts (from overfertilizing). If you'r a light feeder you should flush with less water.
Then for the last week you should use straight water. (or with molasses or a flushing agent. I use none)
In coco you should flush for the last 4-5 days in the same manner.
In hydro you should flush for the last 3-4 days.

A longer flush will remove the fertilizer taste but might decrease the yield as you'r denying the plant from nutrients for too long.

For the last 2-3 days you should turn off the lights (if possible) and give the plants straight darkness.
Not only it will save you some $$$, it will make the buds rippen faster. Or at least look like that way.
Giving your plants light for the last 2-3 days will not help with anything.


You could get a harvest without a flush and with 12\12 until harvest, but why?
not only it will taste better and look better, it doesn't requier any effort on your behalf!

And rest assured - your yield will not be compremised.

In coco\perlite I do the flush a week before the harvest.
I shut the lights down for 3-4 days before harvest.
It might lower my yield a bit but it saves me a lot of money and I think it gives me a better product as well.

ya know why people give their plants mollasses water the last 2 weeks after the flush? the nutrients it has the plant itself uses and the sugars that feed the microbes in your soil that break down nutes into easier to absorb forms for the plant. so if u flush dont forget that part. its important. lol

wow, 3 weeks? thats a bit excessive. you should start using mollasses if your planning on continuing doing this. lol

If i had access to molasses, I would.
I don't.

I use rich soils so 3 weeks isn't too much.
I like to add humus in large emounts so it keeps them alive for quite a bit.
If I go for a 3 week flush I usually feed pretty agressively before so a lot of the nutes stay in the medium. I don't like flushing with too much water anyway so I never rinse too much nutrients out.

...I leach for the last 2 weeks. No problems what so ever. I was speaking in general, it takes 28 days for all the elements to transfer through the plants. Some more, some less...you are correct.

...true, however, idk if this pertains to synthetic fertilizers. Synthetic fertilizers feed your plant not your soil.

If i had access to molasses, I would.
I don't.

they do not sell mollasses.

There was an organic - hippycrap - store that sold mollasses, but it was about 8$ for a 200ml bottle.

I made it as clear as day to you in the other thread when you was asking about flushing, i even provided you with ongoing 150 year old experiment that proves beyond any doubt that flushing is a waste of time!

I wont even talk about the parts where you contradict yourself regarding yield.

2/3 days darkness? benefits are disputed 50/50 & to most growers who dont have unlimited space, tents, fans, filters... leaving your plant in the dark for this long at its most ripest in an uncrontroled enviroment, is an open invitation to bud rot. Daft!

If you flush to remove salts from over-fertilizing then YOU ARE FEEDING THE PLANTS WRONG by definition!

fertilizer taste?!?! what in the name of all things holy are you talking about? If you over fert, the smoke will have a harsher taste , the bud will also crackle more when burning, possibly carinogenic if you are crazy enough to smoke weed grown on chemicals. But you wont be able to taste the fertilizer, no more than you will with strawberries, tomatoes peppers etc that are grown in pig shit. Daft again.

Shouldn't common sense alone tell you that deviating from how the plant naturally grows can only be detrimental to the end result? In nature there is no "flush". Experiments conducted by real scientists, prove this beyond any doubt.

Its mumbo jumbo like this that keeps the myths alive & the nutrient makers in $$ heaven.

They do have treacle & golden syrup, saw them both last time i was in Tel Aviv, even had a lovely desert made of fig's & treacle, sweet as hell but just right somehow.Especially with the night time Mediterranean sea breeze blowing in your face.

1. I've used the 2\3 days of darkness method. No bud rot.
Just my venting and no light.
You can analyze it as much as you want, it still worked for me.

2. I've harvested my biobizz fed babies without a flush and you could destinctively smell \ taste it.
I even got someone to tell its biobizz without knowing anything about it.

I rarely visit Tel Aviv. There are a lot of things there, I just can't stand this city so I evoid getting there.
There is mollasses to be found but I haven't found anything is the "resonable" range.

In Tel Aviv its usually more of a polution wave rather than a breeze blowing in your face.
There's a place in Givataim (1km from Tel Aviv) where's the planitarium is that you can see at certain times a purple aura of polution above Tel Aviv.

And the people there are total dush-bags.
