Dude relax and don't listen to anything you have heard so far. My friend of 20 years is a lawyer and this is what he said to do.

1 - Go here http://norml.org/index.cfm?wtm_view=&Group_ID=4537 and look at what they can charge you with. That is for your state.

2 - Get a lawyer off that same site. Don't mess around. Get the money or borrow it but talk to a lawyer first and STOP talking to the fucking cops!!! They are NOT your friends!! They want a bust and you are sweet pickings.

3 - No more talking on here at all. STOP POSTING HERE ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL SHIT AT ONCE. Cease and desist all speaking to anyone but a lawyer and your parents. Get this shit fixed now and shut your trap. I am not messing with you.

4 - Don't worry about the school. Let the lawyer handle ALL of it. That's what he gets paid for.

5 - The last post I want to see from you better say "Thanks everyone for your help. I will talk to you in a few months."

If he is smart and listens he "might" get off with a slap on the wrist. The school may not be so lenient tho. May get a suspension or kicked out. All depends on how his lawyer handles it.

He just needs to stop talking to anyone but his lawyer. Not even his friends. Trust no one but lawyer and parents at this point.

I also see he took my advice.........for now. Good for him.

Iowa state law says this for Cultivation and sales: Within 1,000 feet of a school or park = felony, 10 years MMS* to 25 years.

It's the MMS he needs to worry about. This is why he needs a lawyer. MMS is mandatory prison time no matter what.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. He'll get off easy with a decent lawyer. I wouldn't be suprised if both felonies get reduced to misdemeaners. This a great example of why you can never be to paranoid. The way I'm setting up mine you won't hear or smell it unless ur in the room itself which is kept locked and deadbolted. Electicity usage is constantly monitered, exhaust hidden and I'll be checking for smell every day. I bet he was in a dorm though without a carbon filter.

It is really that strict here. some states have decriminalized possesion of amounts less than 1oz, but most its a felony any way you look at it for cultivation, unless your a MMJ patient. Schools and universities are not even allowed to grow it for research purposes unless they recieve a special charter from the dea, fda, and a dozen other agencies that tell you no just for prudence's sake.
And police here in America are not only allowed/permissed to lie to you to extract information, they are trained on how to do it.... All you have to tell them by law is your name. And thats all you should tell them. By admitting the scale was his, the OP secured the dist. charge..... well played officer. enjoy the donuts, I hope you choke on em.

And as far as the charges following him around.... look on craigslist, careerbuilder, your local newspaper- every single job that pays more than poverty wages says what-
Must be able to pass criminal background check.
An FBI criminal background report shows every single legal instance you have ever been involved with, arrest records, court outcomes, etc etc. All an employer has to do is see an arrest for a drug charge and they will dismiss the idea of hiring you on the spot, regardless of the outcome in court.

Only problem with mmj state is you'll be considered drug addict, n it it'll be harder to find a doctor. But if one won't do it, find another. Also maybe say that they said you were a drug addict, you didn't. You used it for med purposes, also might help if ya said you were addicted to other drugs, and used ganja to get off the addicting ones. Another tip, if you gotta part time job flipping burgers, working at department store, or whatever. Flip the fuck out of those burgers, stock the fuck out out of those shelves, you can't screw around no more. A felon with no decent reference in this economony, please! Better hope mom's still got a spot on the couch for ya if ya slack around.

i dont know about the other states but michigan requires no felonies regarding drugs .
so that wont be an option.

It all comes down to money... really and truly thats all they want. it costs money to go to court and to house inmates... trust me they would much rather take you for every penny than lock you up for a day. they save the jails for the people that cant afford there fines, and let violent offenders out after 6 months with time served.......

I played drop in hockey over in farmington and there was a guy playing that had just gotten out of court. They caught him with 13 plants. They ended up fining him $3000. No probation or anything. NO jail time? he got off good. CA is one of the best MMJ states there is?? i know people here in san bernadino/riverside area that got caught with 30 plants and got a 500 dollar fine and 30 days community service.

Hey... well it happened... I got busted, just got back from a night at jail. Can anyone help me figure out what is going to happen from here?

Specifics:

2 felonies
1 simple misdemeanor

3 plants, 1 a small seedling the other two basically ready to harvest. Weight unknown

Arrested in Iowa City, Iowa, I am a student at the university of iowa, i am 19, first time offender.

i knew a guy that drove from cali to iowa with 8 pounds. he got 5-13 years i believe. somewhere around there.

Start pumping iron if ya didn't already. If you got grants or fin aid kiss those goodbye. Good luck getting a job.(decent job). Stay ur ass out of trouble till ur done with probation if you get it. Don't fail any piss tests. Ride that shit out, sucks to be on probabtion when ur in college. Kiss the bars, parties, and any non-nerdy bitches goodbye cuz u can't smoke no more foo. Stick to changing ur life, looking good for the judge, and planning on your future of being a changed felon for now. Life ell git better man. It's gonna suck for a while though. It'll be a little easier to study, but ur gonna be one crabby mofo. If you don't wanna spend money on a lawyer, don't. Put yourself in treatment, go to meetings, and anything you can to make yourself look like a man who wants to change. Volunteer at food shelves, rake leaves, say you found god (shiva) anything to make yourself look like a great man who's sorry, and wants to be a better person. Then get off probation and smoke the fuck out the rest of ur life.

It sucks hearing the worst case scenarios over and over again. I was born and raised in good ol Arizona where you get a felony for a pipe or 1 seed or a gram of weed!! In my case that is three felonies... My house was raided for selling weed. I was in college as an engineering student and was afraid I was going to be kicked out of school. To make a very long story short- I was freed with no felonies, 1 misdemeanor, 6 months unsupervised probation and a $1000 fine. Granted, this decision came only after 10 months in court plus they stole over $1500 as well (it never came up in evidence). I learned a very valuable lesson: Contributing members of 'society' are much more likely to walk... So here's what I suggest: You're already in college- How's your GPA? Start studying your ass off and pull off straight A's. Join as many extracurricular activities as possible. Donate your time to public service- volunteer at boys and girls club or something. Bottom line is that you are to focus them on your worth not your failures. If you had been busted before it would be a different story but 'everyone' smokes a little pot in college. You have to prove you are not a danger to the people around you. You are just a kid experimenting and made some bad decisions... Good luck- my thoughts are with you

As a person who got in plenty of trouble during my college days...listen to this guy! If you are a good, wholesome college kid...you are way better off than a run of the mill thug would be. It's unfair but very true.
