Light distance

hey after your guys opinion.

I have high temps in my grow room so am keeping my 400w hps about 1m above the plant tips, is this too far?

yes it is way too far. i have my 600w 15inches away.

one way to get rid of some heat is to locate your ballast outside your grow room .
the other way is that you have to vent that hot air out of your grow room VENTILATION is key to a successful grow .

the plants can cope with high temps if you supplement the room with Co2.

ventilation is cheaper.

the closet has massive amounts of ventilation for its small size, however for some reason I cant get the exhaust temps to rise, oviously its pulling the air from somewhere else :(

It's definitely too far away, because at that distance, the output is less than a shoplight puts out. You should be able to bring it down to 18" or so, without any problems.(I ran mine at about 14") When you start getting closer than that, you have to start watching the heat output, but as long as it's 16" or more, you shouldn't have any troubles. Also, make sure you have a fan sweeping across the tops of the plants, as this will help alot if you're concerned about heat stress.

would a sheet of glass be just as effective that one of those stainless steel light spreaders that attach to the bulb? cheers for your help guys

hey sorry if this has been asked before. how would you guys go about hanging a hps bulb? are there special holders i can buy? can i make my own?
