1st Grow, CFLs, small closet, afghan and reggie strands

this type of grow has been screwed up many times im sure, and its pretty much lame, but i want to get my technique down before i spend real money on good seeds. by doing it like this i also have a log so i can see the good and bad i do along the way.

ive got 6 afghan seeds (3 are 2 inches tall, 2 are about an inch and 1 hasnt come up yet), and 29 reggie seeds from different bags that i found to be top quality. i used only the best seeds from this stash. they are planted in the jiffy pellets right now and all but 8 reggie seeds have been in dirt for 3 days (the 8 seeds went in today).

My grow room:
2'D x 3'W x 6'H
White painted walls

my equipment:
2 10" dome reflectors
2 Y socket adapters
4 26w 6400k CFLs
1 oscilating fan
2 mini high speed fans (one for intake, one for exhaust
thermometer
R.O. purification system
1 bag Pearlite
1 bag Spagnum Peat
1 bag EcoGrow? potting soil
22 Jiffy Pots (to transplant to from jiffy pellets)

Still need:
2700k CFLs
2 48" Fluorescent fixtures with veg and flower bulbs
Final pots (sterilized milk jugs i think)

im starting with alot of seeds for my space, i know. ive got 35 seedlings, lets say i lose 5, leaves me 30. lets say half are males, leaves me 15. im only growing 8 to the end. ill pick the strongest plants at transplant and kill the weak ones. (keeping the afghans for sure!)

ill post pics from start to finish

Hey man, My setup is prity much the same as yours althought a bit smaller and i'll be starting with some clones.

I was under the impression that i will need a carbon filter and extraction fan, hardware that's around £60, would 2 small highspeed pc fans do the job?

it really depends on the ambient temp around your grow room AND the heat from your lights. since we are using CFLs, the heat generated is really not bad. i live in a warm climate so more ventilation will be needed in the coming months. for now i keep a crack in the door to my closet, an oscilating fan blowing on the plants and one of the mini fans directed at the crack in the door to push heat out. my closet ranges from 80 to 85F (depends on time of day). im going to add a REAL exhaust fan with a carbon filter and a fresh air intake to the closet soon as the weather is getting hot here.

ive read that with more light (lumens), plants are able to handle more heat and therefore grow faster. trusting that info, as my plants grow i will keep adding more light and im keeping my temps at 85F. secondly, when i switch to 12/12 light/dark i will use a small space heater to keep night temps at around 83F. by doing this, my internodal length will be shorter, producing more of the FRUIT:weed:

dont take what i say as fact, this is my first grow and ive only been researching this for about a month.

i picked up 4 26w 2700k CFLs today. all seeds but 6 have sprouted. after 3 to 4 days in the jiffy pellet greenhouse (haha), i moved them to the other one with no lid so the humidity doesnt stay high. still around 80 to 85 degrees but im having to turn my AC lower to compensate for the heat we have where i live.

For some reason, my reggie seeds are growing faster and with thicker stalks and better looking first leaves than my afghan seeds are.... my afghans have thin stems.... i wish it was the other way around.

PS, im buying 4 more 2700k CFLs, and 4 5500k CFLs along with 4 more Y splitters so i can run 4 bulbs per fixture. i read somewhere that chlorophyl (did i spell that right?), absorbs the 5500k spectrum of light the best and 6400 second best, so maybe running half and half could be better?

im open to ANY advice (that is worth a shit), so anybody with experience please chime in any time im screwing up, thanks

5500 for veg and should use the 2700 for flower has to to with the red in the 2700 for Flowering i believe

thats 100% correct. but, 6400K is also used well by plants, some growers even prefer it. i read somewhere, that 5500k is a more efficient part of the spectrum. so im wondering if using both would make it any better...

here is the scale i found

the power got shut off somehow last night while i was not at home.... the heater didnt kick back on when the power came back.... plants were at 55F and wilted when i got back:cuss:

turned heat on them, got the room back to 80, they bounced back AND most of em put out another set by night fall.

TRANSPLANTED TO JIFFY POTS ON 3-22

about 1.5 to 2 inches tall. all but 2 pellets sprouted. little round leaves, first leaves, and second set on most.

....my afghans have light green leaves, something is wrong. all of the Reggie ones look nice, with the exception of 2 or 3

are indicas more sensitive?
