3-4 months out of the year are paid in taxes. i think i read somewhere that 51% of that goes to "defense" either way we should be able to reappropriate some of these funds. lets just take 9/11 as an example. nobody was fired. and we threw plenty of money to different places so that wouldnt happen again, which shouldnt of happened in the first place. but that is a whole different subject. only in america can you royally fuck up and get paid. i think i can understand some of these suicide cults now....
Good point.

Corporate income tax pays for defense. Personal income taxes service the debt.

I can't say what I wanna do right now because USSS would be up my ass...

hashbrown, you want to start your own thread or do a search on google (rollitup: reveging) because the search option on this site sucks, theres too much going on here. were here complaining about health care, youll get better help in your own thread

The ruling class in America traditionally made money in armaments. About 25 years ago they started investing in health care/ pharma. When Bush senior was VP he was censured by Congress for unlawful lobbying for a drug company. That company was Eli Lilley. The largest single stockholder at that time was a family named Quayle. Now you know where Mr cant spell potato came from. Price fixing is the problem in America. For example an MRI in Tokyo, an expensive town on par with NYC, costs $100 - 130 depending. In the states an MRI starts at $1300. American health care is the most expensive on the planet but the WHO rates the US around 33rd in quality. Why? Because the ruling class uses it as a vehicle to transfer immense wealth. Same with defense. If you knew the immense fees Halliburton collects just to provide water to troops in Iraq you would know you smell a rat. Blackwater as well, cronies of Bush. America is a corporate Fascist state. Not name calling, just what the structure is as defined by Mussolini and he should know. For giggles Google Kurt Vonnegut and psychopathic personalities. The year or more before Kurt died of cancer he penned a few articles re things he personally knew. Illuminating.

people here were rooting for you guys to get health care similar to ours, because it would be so much better for the people...but i guess it didnt really turn out that way :( and im not saying exactly like ours, i think that it would probably have been good to use the canadian system as a base model and then try to find ways to tweak and upgrade the system to fix the things that maybe dont work here...but then at the same time im thinking that this isnt really a good time for your government to be spending that kind of money on health care when they have a massive debt already...i know that there have been reports that say this will actually end up reducing the deficit by 100bil over a certain period of years, but i dont know how that works...i can see this being a really big strain on an already struggling economy...

What Is (and Isn't) in the Healthcare Bill

The House passed the legislation, but what does it actually do?

By Kent Garber
Posted March 22, 2010

Public option. Individual Mandate. Doughnut Hole. Excise tax.
These terms are so complicated, and so abstract, it's no wonder that more than half of Americans, according to a recent poll, say they still don't know what the Democrats' bill contains.

Here's a cursory look at what's in the legislation that the House of Representatives passed last night—and what didn't make the final cut.

1. Insurance for millions
Under the legislation, 32 million more people will have health insurance in 2019 than without the bill. That means that about 94 percent of all U.S. citizens will have insurance by the end of the decade. That still falls short of "universal coverage," but it's a significant increase from the 83 percent of American citizens who are covered today.

2. Coverage for people with pre-existing conditions
Right now, insurance companies can deny coverage to people with "pre-existing conditions," like cancer and heart disease, to name just two of many. The healthcare bill would ban this practice.

3. Help buying insurance
Lower-income Americans who can't afford to buy insurance will get help in one of two ways. The bill expands Medicaid, the free government plan for the poor and disabled, to anyone making up to about $15,000 a year. (About 16 million new people are expected to go into Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program because of the bill.) Second, it would provide subsidies to people who aren't poor enough to qualify for Medicare but still struggle to afford insurance. Individuals making up to about $44,000 would qualify for some kind of subsidy. And for people who don't get insurance from their employers, they'd be able to shop for plans on new insurance exchanges.

4. Help for prescription drugs
Right off the bat, the bill will give seniors a $250 rebate to help pay for prescription drugs. Over the next decade, it also will get rid of the so-called doughnut hole (Medicare, thanks to quirks of past laws, helps cover seniors who spend either less than $2,700 or more than about $6,150 on prescription drugs, but nothing in the middle). To put it simply, seniors will get much more help paying for drugs.

5. Penalties for people who don't buy insurance and companies that don't offer it
The bill has what's called an "individual mandate," which means that most Americans, starting in 2014, must have insurance or face a penalty. The penalty would be $95 or 1 percent of income (whichever is greater) in 2014 and go up to $695 or 2.5 percent of income in 2016. The bill also includes an "employer mandate," which means that most businesses that don't offer insurance to their employees will face a penalty, too. Companies with fewer than 50 workers would be exempt.

6. No "public option"
Much of the debate in the past year was consumed by talk about the "public option," which was pushed by liberal Democrats who wanted the government to provide an alternative to private insurance plans. The House included it in its bill last fall, but the Senate, in order to get to 60 votes, did not. The final bill doesn't have the public option, either.

7. No traditional Medicare cuts
Seniors won't see cuts to their regular Medicare benefits. Those who have Medicare Advantage, however, may see some changes. Medicare Advantage plans, which are paid for by the government but administered by private companies, offer extra benefits like eye care and dental visits. These plans, on average, cost the government about 15 percent more per person than regular Medicare. In an effort to cut spending, the bill gradually cuts the amount the government will give private insurers to offer Medicare Advantage, which may lead to insurers dropping benefits or dropping out altogether.

8. Higher taxes for the wealthy
To help pay its $940 billion price, the bill raises certain taxes on individuals making more than $200,000 a year and couples making over $250,000. For example, the Medicare payroll tax would rise (for these individuals), as would taxes on some investments.

9. Cutting the deficit
Even though Republicans say the bill is too expensive and spends wastefully, the Congressional Budget Office says that it will actually help cut the deficit, by more than $130 billion in its first 10 years and more than a trillion in the second 10 years. That said, the CBO admits that there's considerable uncertainty in its estimates.

10. Making healthcare cheaper
The cost of healthcare for Americans (and the amount the government spends on healthcare) has been rising for more than a while now. The bill has several ideas for "controlling costs," including experiments to pay hospitals and doctors a lump sum for treating a particular patient, rather than paying them for every single test and procedure they provide. There are also programs in the bill to bring medicine into the digital age. Experts say these ideas could be game-changing, but it's too early to tell if they'll actually work.

Beyond the debates over socialism, beyond the emotional talk of previous conditions and lifetime limits, we must look what this change indicates in a geopolitical and long-term context.

Who cares what it took to pass it, what it's going to do. The fact that it passed is a measure of our place on the path to national(imperial)decline.

We are no more likely to survive than any of the multiethnic empires before us, and to assume that we are is malignant idiocy.

I really havent talked to anyone about this health care issue but here it goes:

Im 25, Most uninsured are in my age range i believe and let me tell you this bill will somehow benefit all of us. I am currently 65000+ in dept because of medical bills due to a serious car accident i was in in 2006. I had healthcare in 2006...until march when i turned 21..my accident was sept 10 2006. I now have to go bankrupt due to my immense debt. This bill could have helped me.

Thing is i know this bill is just about money. The more people that have insurance means more money for the insurance co's, that a no brainer. Thing is why couldnt we have had health care like that of france, or canada (to mention a few good ones). This i dont understand.

But to get back on my point... Alot of people my age dont have health insurance, which leads to a poorer quality of life or even going bankrupt like i have to because of insurance debt...which leads to even more "digging out". IMO in the long run this bill will help America. People just need to se the big picture and stop being so god damn greedy with there money.

the real greed is the medical industry. America tops the list in healthcare cost yet the WHO rates it 33 in quality, right up there with Turkey and Mexico. An MRI that costs $1300 or more is $100 in Tokyo. Same for a hospital bed - the US is 10 times more expensive. Why? Price fixing. The transfer of wealth is enormous and this legislation wont help. The ONLY aspect L view favorably is not letting insurance companies drop you for pre existing conditions.

That's the point, it's OUR GODDAMN money... why the FUCK do you think you have a right to it, because you didn't want to better yourself and get a job/career that has benefits such as health insurance?

Fuck... THAT.

You seem to miss what this country was founded on and that was freedom, and to make folks like myself who were determined to better themselves at any chance possible pay for people like yourself who missed the starting gun is NOT freedom.

You are forcing folks to pay for you because you fucked up...

Man up, get some responsibility, and get out of debt ON YOUR OWN, and stop holding your fuckin' hand out.

I mean seriously, you really like sucking on the government and OUR tits because you have thus far failed at life?

Bullshit... get out there, get a career, THINK of something to do besides bitch about how much debt you're in because you didn't equip yourself for the perils of life.

Sorry if I seem a bit rude, but I EARNED my money, and folks like you (Marxist, Socialists) think you have a right to my money... and that I should "share the wealth".

As I said previously, I am ALL about helping (not providing for) my fellow man, but at my OWN discretion and not the governments.

I skipped the thread, so pardon if this has been said.

I'm not entirely sure on the Health care reforms in the United States, but I'm pretty sure its changing to be more like Canada's.
How could you people not think this is for your own benefit? You pay a measly $50-100 month per person, and you are covered for 85% of your medical cost.. How is this not beneficial? You don't want to pay $50-100 bucks? What happens when your hit by a car, and you need immediate medical attention and have no money.... you put it on credit? that sucks...... oh how about the government pays 85% percent of it... because you only pitch in a SMALL FRACTION just like everybody else... same thing with car insurance.... you pay for it, but you don't necessarily crash your car and use it... but if you do, its there....

If you don't think this is beneficial, give your head a shake. It may not be beneficial to you as an individual, but to the United States as a whole. Think about others for once, fuck sakes.

How about I quit my job, start smoking crack, robbing people, and just lay back and let YOU pay for all my health care, my medication, everything I want...

I'm just gonna let you pay for it all, better yet, I'll get the government to MAKE YOU PAY FOR IT.

PM me for my address so you can send a check, I'll take cash too!

:wall:

Folks like yourself and puffpuffPASSEDOUTwithnoinsurancebutplentyofmoneytobuyweed have no place in our country, please move to Canada or Europe where you all can suck the titties dry of folks that work for and pay for THEIR own.

bro i understand were your coming from, but you need to chill the fuck out. :o

First off, i have health insurance now, and am in great health..thanks to myself. No on epaid for shit for me. I have dept, and that will be dealt with. BUT the thing your not understanding is the overall view of this bill (which isnt perfect by a long shot). GOOD HEALTH IS THE KEY TO LIVING LIFE SUCCESSFULLY! SOME PEOPLE (I.E. ME WHEN I WAS 21 AND LAID OFF) CAN NOT AFFORD HEALTH INSURANCE AND REALLY NEED IT. IF PEOPLE IN DIRE NEED OF HEALTH INSURANCE NEED IT, THEY GOT IT. BUT WHAT ABOUT THOSE WHO ARENT IN THAT SITUATION...YET. THEY ARE FUCKED. OR WHAT IF THEY ARE IN COLLEGE TRYIN TO PAY FOR COLLEGE AND FOOD AND THERE APT AND THERE CAR INSURANCE ETC.... PEOPLE NEED HELP AND BEING WE ARE THE RICHEST (OR ATLEAST SECOND RICHEST) COUNTRY IN THE FUCKING WORLD I BELIEVE OUR CITZENS DESERVE ASSISTANCE.

GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE DICK.
