okay, this all might be a mouthful but whatever.

i havent even started my first grow yet. while i was researching, i realized that the light that i have currently (the 150wHPS that i named myself after) would not be sufficient for what i wanted to do. so i got a 400wHPS as well.

im using a normal clothing closet thats about 2.5'deep x 6'wide x 7'tall. there is a clothing rod going across it horizontally at about 5' from the ground.

i will hang the 400wHPS on the left and my 150wHPS on the right. this will give me a total of 550w which should be more than sufficient.

I AM ONLY GROWING AUTOFLOWERS FOR THE TIME BEING.

im curious about the arrangement of the plants under the lights. the lights will be hanging just far enough apart so i can have a fan pointing on each bulb.

so do i do two separate grows on the same light cycle in the same closet, or do i treat the whole closet as a 550w lamp, keep the two bulbs at the same height, and rotate the plants daily to make sure that everyone gets their fair share of time in the optimal lighting area of the closet?

i have more questions but i cant think of how to phrase them yet so bear with me.

+rep for any useful advice

how many autos do you guys think i could squeeze in there SOG style? refering to the smaller autos here not the like 20-30"ers

EDIT: i was thinking that i would do 12 seedlings under the 150w and keep however many females i get. and do 24 under the 400w and keep however females i get. then keep a few males under like 100w of CFL in a separate closet for selective pollination.

what size pots would you use?

should this be in a different section or something? Maybe growroom design?

patience is a virtue I guess

the plants under the 150 watt light will grow slower. so you can either do two separate grows with the 150 side finishing later or continually rotate your plants between the two lights.

l don't grow small autoflowers so can't help you there.

and no, your posts aren't being ignored, they just aren't being seen. late afternoon, early evening during week days is the best time to get a quick answer. no probs just bumping your post every couple of hours - eventually you'll get your answer.

thats awesome... i was hoping to just be able to do a solid, single, sea of green. as opposed to having to have two separate grows...

thanks a million for the info, that was just the answer i was hoping for!

any more advice?

how many 12-16" himalaya blue diesel would YOU put under 550w of high pressure sodium?

okay

This is what i would do.

your closet is 6' wide, and it would be hard for one light to cover that area. To maximize your space and light. I would put the 150 watt light on the left and the 400 on the right.

You can probably fit 2gallon pots about 2 deep in the closet, so i would do the plants in waves of 4 for SOG

You would be able to start the plants under the 150 watt for the veg period (about 14 days) and move them closer to the 400 for budding as you start more seedlings to veg.

just a thought.

another thought would be to supplement your lighting with some HO t5's. 2 4 foot single bulb fixtures hung horizontally on the back wall would do wonders.

so you mean 4 under the 150, and 4 under the 400, 4 weeks apart?

or what exactly do you mean when you say "waves" of 4?

well i would start 4, and two weeks later i would start another 4 or "wave" - eventually 4 go in, and 4 go out. - like waves.

yeah i like that... if they take 9-10wks at the longest then i would have 5 waves of 4 totaling me at 20 females at any given time. probably with one pollinated from each "wave" of 4 untill i have all the seeds i need for the forseeable future. and maybe 10 germing to make sure i attain my 4 females per cycle.

i like that im getting advice from someone who is actually growing the same strain as i am. what an awesome community!

It would be worth your time to research taking a female plant, and spraying it with colloidal silver to make pollen to pollinate another female create your own feminized seeds. that way you dont have to worry about males :P

i had actually looked into that already and the information that i was reading said that you cannot smoke a plant treated with colloidal silver. but that you could acheive the same effect by doing one of two things

a. in the feeding before pollination of a female you would crush one tablet of asprin into her water(with nutrients or without depending on your feeding cycle) and feed her as normal and pollinate her. the resulting seeds would supposedly be 100% feminized

b. in the feeding before pollination, you would feed the male one tablet of asprin as you did with the female, then pollinate the female. supposedly you would then too get 100% feminized seeds

i searched "feminizing your own seeds" or "feminizing seeds" or "how to feminize seeds" on google and it wasone of the first results but i cant seem to find it now.

anyone else ever heard of this, any thoughts?

Refering to how many you can fit in a space like that without regards to the light footprint, the most you could possibly fit with sufficient root space would be about 40, in 2 gal grow bags, smashed into eachother with no floor space remaining virtually at all (I wouldn't do this Air movement would be difficult and could invite a host of other problems with heat, fungus, etc). Even in SOG with clones it's recommended that you maintain at least 1 ft^2 for the growth of the plant (15 would be the max then.. but at differing stages I think you can do more). All of yours wont need that much space all at once. 30 days apart I think you could start 10-12 at a time if you up pot a couple times to save on the space when they are seedlings/veg(ish) state/ budding.
Just my 2 cents.

Also, I keep my lights at slightly differing heights and adjust them accordingly to the height of the plants under them.

thanks for the info... I decided to do "waves" of 9. At 4 week intervals. Germing about 25 seeds at a time so that I can pick the 9 healthiest females out of the 25 seedlings. I'm going to start them in 16oz cups, then 2l soda bottles, then 1gal pots.

also I got the foxfarm liquid nutrient soil 3pack, and earth juice organic PH up+down. Lights were not necessarily going to be at different heights unless they needed to be based on heat and height. The seedlings will be stepped up on a milk crate.

from all that, do yo see any tweaks or adjustments that I should make?
