Help me set up my first grow

First timer anxious to start first run. Been reading a lot of random posts on here and am getting marijuana horticulture the book in the mail soon. Thinking about doing a hydro grow tent in my room as it has easy access to a window and I have room to spare. Got a 1000 watt hps and a Prometheus ballast 240v( I don't know how to plug it in since the plug is horizontal and I think it the socket in my walls are 120 v), that is all of the equipment so far. I was wondering if anyone had reccomendations for a tent or hydro for thisfirst time guy who can't even grow a mustache, I was looking for a tent that is 4 x 5 or 5 x 5 to get the most use out of my light. Thanks in advance!

no tent advice but a simple dwc setup is what i'd go with. and definately get a 220 socket installed, and DONT FUCKING KILL YOURSELF in the process

Well I have a Secret Jardin dr100L which is a (roughly) 3x3x6 grow tent. For you I would check out a dr150 or dr200. I think you would like them. They are a little pricey but I love mine!!!! What kind of seeds you decide to go with????

The dr150 looks like what I want even if it's kind of pricey, honestly I haven't the slightest clue as to what seeds I want to use, a buddy of mine was supposed to help me set all of this up but hasn't been returning my calls so I am trying to figure this out by myself. Thanks for responding!

Well my advice is to get a Indica strain that you like if you tell me what kind of weed you like i could give you a name and place to order. just need to know if you like a fruity or a heavy high or pain reliever or what.......added you some reps to help out a little too

Thanks man, I am looking to grow medicine for dispensaries and just want to get the most yield out of my plants, it doesn't matter to me what kind I grow as I wont be smoking it.

Hey i know this might be an odd question but how does one get into doing that? I have been interested in doing that but dont know where to start.....do you need a special permit or something or just a card??

I couldn't tell you as I am new to this, I am going to get a doctors reccommendation because as far as I know that's as good as the card then bring some to dispensaries.

With my room setup the only thing that is stopping me from buying a setup is the installation of a new outlet, anyone know what It would cost or how to ask an electrician my problem.

It would be a lot easier to rewire your ballast for 120v instead of having an electrician come out and run you a special 240 line. Its not hard to do at all, but in doing that you have to consider that a 1000w ballast running 110/120v will draw about 9.5 amps. And most household plugs are rated for 15 amps and should only be used to about 80% of their amperage rating because of fire hazard. And I'm not a tent grower but I do have a lot of experience with 400w,600w and 1000w setups and in my opinion a 1000w in a small grow tent would have overwhelming heat issues, even with venting and air cooled hoods...jmo

Cool, so if I was to rewire it then it would be fine to go into my 15 amp socket because 80% of that is 12, and if I'm only drawing 9.5 amps I should be good? How do I rewire it? I didn't think heat would be an issue I was under the impression that my light didn't get too hot and I would have proper venthilation out my window with whatever fan I decide to get. Thanks!

How would I rewire it? Once I do that I should be good to plug it into a 15 amp socket because 80% is 12amps and like you said it should be drawing 9.5 amps? I was under the impression that my light didn't get too hot, I think it is air cooled(I'll check when I get home) and my room is pretty cold also I should have sufficient ventilation and fans.

If you have never rewired a tap ballast it may seem overwhelming at first glance but it is really very simple.

First of all what type/brand of ballast is it?

It is global greenhouse lighting and here are some photos...

Didn't know it was a digital ballast. You can't re-wire them for a different voltage.. I thought it was a old style mag/core ballast, the real heavy ones. Usually with digital ballasts you change plugs to change the voltage but I didn;t see that notification on the label in your pic. You might want to check with the mfg of the ballast or a hydro shop that carries that brand and see if it is possible to convert to 120v.

Global Greenhouse digital ballasts have the intellivolt feature. This means the ballast recognizes which voltage is supplied so you can’t mess up. They also have digitals that run on 240v only which are a bit cheaper. If you look next to the plugs on the ballast it should specify whether it is 240v or 120/240v. Peace and good luck.
