hey! this is only my 2nd grow and im a lil concerned about my seeds. i soaked the seeds in distilled water until the lil root broke thru the seed case; i then placed them in rockwool cubes that i soaked in distilled water with parks seed success fertilizer(npk 20-20-20; 1/4 tsp per gal) and aqua shield(beneficial bacteria/ root innoculant; 1 tsp per gal) and put the cubes in a humidity dome at 85-90 degrees F. its been 3 days and no sign of breaking the surface... my first batch was done in the same way except i didnt use the fertilizer or aqua shield and they broke thru in a lil over 24 hrs. did i kill this batch with kindness or am i being impatient?

You don't need to fertilize jst yet. However, wait it out and see if the seeds break through in a couple more days.

man i hope theyre ok... the reason i did that is because i thuoght it would give em a boost... if they make it, do u think they will be runts?

Its too soon to tell. I wouldn't worry too much unless u spent a bundle on seeds. When I germ seeds I basically put them in between some wet paper towels inside a ziplock bag and cover with a shirt. In abt 2 days I check them and if cracked I poke a hole in some dirt or rockwool with a pen and drop the seed in. Then I jst water a bit and cover with plastic wrap. Leave by a window or under a cfl. I try to never over water (soak) them. There are no failures jst slow successes. Keep practicing (pref on bagseed) and the experience will come.

I dont use rockwool anymore. I found that it would "hold a weird smell" that didnt strike me as very healthy for my seeds! I use Organic Potting soil, Coconut hair and pearlite. works a treat. Also, its very easy to overewater new seeds and cuttings! so watch it!

Its true that seedlings and clones like higher temperatures than regular plants. However, room temps 65-70 F, are fine when starting seeds. When under a light the humidity dome will keep the inside temps higher and more humid than the outside. Im thinking that your plants might be suffering under with a 90 deg temp.

I am no expert but I agree the 20-20-20 was not necessary however it should not make or break ya. I also agree that 90 degrees maybe a little to warm. 80 would be better so try to keep it closer to that. Also they do not need or like light until they have broken the surface, if its 90 degrees in there then you are using a light? . I think you should be able to give them a good watering to flush some of that 20-20-20 out if you are worried about that. The rest I want to say I will quote instead of rewording and I will provide the link.

5-55-17 plant food such as Peter's Professional will stimulate root growth of the germinating seed and the new seedlings. Use a very dilute solution, in distilled water, about 1/3 normal strength, and keep temperatures between 72-80 degrees. Warm temperatures are very important. Many growers experience low germination rate if the temperatures are out of this range. A heating pad set to low or medium may be necessary, or a shelf constantly warmed by a light may do, but test it with a few seeds first, before devoting next years crop to it. No light is necessary and may slow germination. Cover germinating seeds with black paper to keep out light. Place seedlings in the light once they sprout.

Rockwool holds 10 times more water than soil, yet is impossible to over-water, because it always retains a high percentage of air.

To pre-treat rockwool for planting, soak it in a solution of fish emulsion, trace mineral solution and phosphoresic acid (PH Down) for 24 hours, then rinse. This will decrease the need for PH worries later on, as it buffers the rockwool PH to be fairly neutural.

yeah, make sure that your rockwool cubes are moist... gently squeeze the cubes and if water comes out, keep squeezin till it's just a lil moist, gently. Now use a spritzer and just plain purified water and coat your dome lid. Whatever light you have keep it moderate, not intense. Place a small thermometer just inside the dome and keep heat at about 27-28 degrees C` make sure the cubes are not too soaked and it's humid in there. You can't go wrong unless they're already kaput from the nute overload. Good luck and learn from mistakes. ~ ur BCbuddy

Now there is no need to panic and flush anything just yet LOL. Just relax and do what I said in my previous post, if they do not emerge within 5 days of following my plan,

gently peel the rockwool apart and see what the heck the seeds are doing in there. Now that you know the conditions of successful germination; ( papertowel prefferably, 28

degrees or so celsius, moisture at ALL times, complete darkness[ use a humidity dome, u will use it anyway at seedling stage, use a heating pad matching proper temp, and place in a

dark(black) area like a cupboard or dresser) you will always have great success in future germs, good luck ~ ur BCbuddy (do u know what +rep is) lol
