so the soil redistribution is going really well. Almost done, one more day :). On a sad note though.....

I just added up how much soil is going to cost, even to do it cheap... Fuck...... I was supposed to have it, no idea how this is going to work now... I just don't have the money.

I can just do smaller boxes, 3x3x1.5 instead of 4x4x2. And am considering using Gardner & bloome And/Or Kellogs to amend and mix into the local soil, as well as some super soil to mix in and added perlite. I was planning on using other products for amendments, but they are just too expensive for my budget. I am a little nervous about using G&B and/or Kellogs, I don't know how they will preform with my local soil, or if my plants will like it too much.

I have amended the below ground soil with horse manure, and a little bit of steer manure and perlite periodically since January. I guess I am just going to have to do what I can and hope for the best huh?

so thats 13.5 cubic feet of soil per raised bed. I am hoping to mix the soils in each bed like this:

Start with local soil base of 3 cubic feet

Premix 3 cubic feet of Horse Manure and Llama manure, then add and mix to local base

Then add 2 cubic feet of perlite

Then premix and add 2.75 cubic feet of 1/2 Kelloggs all natural garden soil for flowers and vegetables, and 1/2 Kelloggs all natural garden soil for trees, shrubs, and roses and add

Then add 2.75 cubic feet of super soil (was thinking roots, but am open to suggestions that keep my broke ass in mind)

And that would be the 13.5 cu feet of soil I need per box. So it breaks down like this, doing it in two sets of 12 beds at a time:

12 3x3x1.5 Boxes
13.5 cubic feet per box= 162 total cubic feet soil
3 cubic ft Horse Manure/Llama per box= 36 total cu. ft manure
3 cubic ft local soil per box= 36 cubic ft local soil Free
5.5 cubic ft ½ super soil ½ amends per box= 33 cubic ft SS, 33 cu ft Amend
2 cubic ft perlite per box= 24 total cubic ft Perlite

Manures= $60
Local= Free
Super Soil= $330
Amendments= $160
Perlite= $216
Total Cost for 12 3x3x1.5 Boxes= $775

12 3x3x1.5 Boxes
13.5 cubic feet per box= 192 total cubic feet of soil
3 cu ft Horse Manure/Llama per box= 51 cu ft total manure
3 cubic ft local soil per box= 36 cu ft total local soil
5.5 cu ft ½ super soil ½ amends per box= 33 cu ft SS, 33 cu ft Amend
2 cu ft perlite per box= 18 cu ft perlite

Manures= $60
Local= Free
Super Soil= $330
Ammendments= $160
Perlite= $216
Total Cost for 12 2x2x2 boxes= $775

Total Cost for soil in Raised Beds= $1550

At $216 for 24/cf your perlite sounds expensive. I get 4cf bags of agricultural grade (processed in the in CA Bay area) for $18.95 or $4.74/cf at the local farm supply place.

I've used and use Gardner & Bloome products, both their compost in-ground and potting soil for containers with great success. The in-ground grows have been 25% G&B compost, 25% native soil (I screen it due to a high clay content [miserable fucking job]), 25% perlite and and 25% decomposed cow manure.

Their potting soil contains some very nice components (fir bark, forest humus, peat moss, perlite, chicken manure, worm castings, bat guano, kelp meal, alfalfa meal, oyster shell and dolomite lime). $6.50/2cf on sale, $7.49 regular price. An image of the label if you like, they don't list all the ingredients on their website. Why people buy FF and such at their outrageous prices is beyond my comprehension.

id start a compost heap for next yr . if theres anyone growing alfalfa or lespidiza in ure area a round bail or a couple a dozen squarebails will work to start it with then cheap grass hay add whatever u can . go to markets and ask for spoiled produce , old coffe grounds , animal shit or whatev .

Didn't really have a choice. I will be using Gardener and Bloom, the trees and shrubs planting mix and the Harvest Supreme (with mycorrhizae)

mixed up two raised beds today, basically in 3 layers. 3 cu ft shrubs & Trees (2 cu ft on bottom, 1 cu ft in middle), and 2 Cu ft Harvest Supreme (mixed in middle) in each box (both are G&B). There is also Horse manure and local soil (mostly towards the bottom, but mixed in middle as well), and a bag of FFOF and 2 cu ft perlite (in middle but mostly on top) in each box
. Im thrilled with how it came out, and it is pretty cheap to do it that way. That's what the two largest Purple Kush mothers are going into tomorrow
. I watered/fed all the mothers tonight accept those two.

Thats a great Idea man, and I already got it started. I am using the ash piles from left over burn piles as the bases for mulch piles. Got a good start on next year, I have been taking left over greens and coffee grounds etc out and dumping them on the piles. I will start turning the piles pretty soon as the weather heats up. + rep.

And here is some Sativa Dom. Ugly Indian Landrace that is going to be the first batch of seedlings to make their way outside, in about 3 or 4 days they will be ready for transplant into 5 gal pots, thats when they go outside :).

I'll post up pics of the other strains I have as seeds to go out too, but as a separate post per strain so the pics don't get messed up.

All these seedlings are in 60% FFOF 25% G&B 15% perlite, and today marks day 21 for them all from first sprout. They had a rough first week because I had them in strait Gardner & Bloom tree and shrub mix (3 am hazy mistake :P )

They were all watered right before the pics. (ph 6.4, ppm 140-160)

Indica Dom. These were supposedly someones attempt at Purple Haze. Looks nice anyways, I like some of the phenos a lot like the way the lower branches are growing and structure and color etc. Might be a keeper strain though, hopefully it is, I have tons o beans :).

If I get some females I might get a keeper to mother of this as well. See some nice phenos in the set. This is a very vigorous strain with a 10 week flower time. Haven't gotten it outside yet, but I will. This will be the second strain to go outside, if it doesn't end up going out at the same time as the UIL.

This is one I'm really excited about. Im expecting great things, and rare phenos. I was limited on beans so I am going to get cuts from any female And the males. I have gotten foot long solid colas indoors of CC some Im excited to see what this strain will produce, especially outside. You will have to excuse the fact that these have been more light deprived than others. In fact you can tell which strains are closest to the lights by looking ;).

Last and Not Least of course :).

The Maui Skunk X Blueberry is a cross I did with a very potent and gorgeous Maui Skunk mother, and Stoney Montanna Genetics Blueberry pollen. There are two (only got two seeds), the two in the front/bottom in the pics.

The other three are original Maui Skunks from the same seed batch as the one I flowered out in my perpetually growing perpetual grow (which is still going, the thread is just over).

And while that is it for now, there is surely more to come. I need to get some incoming seeds figured out, and get some cuttings in pots, and do some sexing when it comes time, and all that jazzy fun :)
