Does snipping lower fan leaves stress plant...

well i don't know if these leaves are meant to be dying or not but the lowest set of fan leaves always seem to die on my plants.As the plant grows taller ,the lowest leaves start to get brown patches and then go crispy and go really light green like they are dead.The rest of the plants are ok the tops look really healthy.They are flowering at the moment ,is it stressful to snip off these lower leaves ?? anyone know why my leaves are dying ,is it a light issue?

Nahhh... I snip em, and never had any adverse effects..

Its almost like cancer to a plant...

In fact, the plant will try real hard to fix the leaf, or whatever.. why waste the plants energy on an old leaf??

When your going into flower, its always good idea to remove the smaller branches, and leaves on the bottom ..

It helps the plant to focus on the upper growth, and the buds we're after.

Personally, I will remove a top leaves only if its covering a bud site, that is my preference, and frowned by some.

Yes!!!! It is stressful...... Those leaves are what supply sugars and carbs to your flowers. Let them die back naturally. It is never recommended to cut any fan leaves. If you must cut your plant at all cut only the growing tips that are not recieving proper amounts of light or you can pinch them back. As described in jorge's bible "you should never cut the fan leaves".

damn if jorge says it..the guy is a legend.i just hate to see the plants looking ugly ,any way i have already done it ,but it's not the big fan leaves it's the lower ones at the bottem that don't get much light ,just wanted some oppinions to wether or not i should do it again in future.Don't wanna herm my plants or slow growth to much ,i am getting so impatient waiting for them

Trimming the dead bottom leaves will only benefit the plant. Trust me on this one.

Just because someone has only 100 posts on this forum does not mean they dont know shit. Then there is someone like you that has 1000s of posts in just a few months and think they are god. Some trimming of fan leaves is acceptable, you will just need to learn the limits yourself through trial and error. Although if you just trim a couple odds are you will never see a difference (i.e. shocking the plant) I personally trim the lower 1/3 or so of the plant, cloning the branches and discarding the fans, a week or two before switching to 12/12. Everyone has their own style. You will find your groove. And yes it is normal for lower leaves to die back. Both from lack of light and how some plants grow.

Growth tips can be many places on the plant, not just the top. It could be a lower branch, far from any decent light, never going to amount to shit. Why leave it to draw energy from areas of the plant that really needs it?

all evidence from these "ghuru" growers like Jorge and Uncle Ben, etc. points towards keeping all leaves and branches intact for overall plant health but I'm still clipping fans that are going to shit at the bottom and I may trim up alot of the lower growth when I go into the room later tonight for watering. Why? because it looks shitty having yellowing dying leaves and also It just seems to make sense getting the crap the recieves no light out so the plant can concentrate on upper growth... in moderation though. ~ BCbuddy
