okay so this guide really explains alot of the basics, to making your own DWC kind of thing.

http://www.hydroponics-simplified.com/raft-lettuce.html

will something similair to this work on mj?

and if it does, what do you do with the water in the box thing? just leave it there? when are you supposed to take the water out of the plant and put it back? like how many times a day, if so can u get something to do that for you?

and if thats how it works then when do you change the nutriented water to balanced ph and new nutes???

& how long would u leave that one till you change it again?

and i basically know how to provide light and how much etc

so noww can i do this?

i have 9-8 "white widow"(idk if they are that or something else but i dont care i just wanna grow those mutha truckass) seeds a friend gave me when i visited him he got them at a dispensary thing in his state

there are much better designs for mj, that one is for lettuce and the bubbles actually need to reach the roots, i dont think the plants on the left in the picture would do too well.

I use 3.5 and 5 gallon buckets for each plant with 2 airstones in each bucket. I leave the roots submerged in water and oxygenate them with the air pump. i let my plants drink the water til its low then refill the bucket with fresh nutes and swap buckets every couple weeks with a clean one, but i know its best to keep the water level about 2 inches below the net cup and dump and clean your reservoir about every 2-4 weeks.

I suggest you do alot of research on all types of growing to decide if dwc will work best for you, ebb and flow is another good choice.

oh yeah, its VERY important not to let the plants dry up (does not take long without water), or drown (does not take long without air bubbles).

I have seen it done in a grow video, but as smoke says not the most efficient way to go about it to be honest.

Yeah this setup will work. You would need more airstones to get bubbles to every plant.
Only other suggestion in the pic the water level is too high, lower it so some of the roots are exposed
to air and the bubbles will mist them.
so yes, you can definitely grow like this.

Oh and if you're gonna grow MJ with that setup, you'll need a way bigger rez. Unless, you only plan on growing one plant per box.
The water stays, you just mix the nutes and pour it in there.
Sometimes you may want to exchange the water of the rez but that's bout it with dwc.

They use the floating raft design for lettuce so they can float it down long water beds - it acts kinda like an assembly line; when they get to the end of the line after so many days, they are transplanted to different containers and water beds. I don't think it would be what you want for MJ, especially because a heavy MJ plant would probably sink the raft, unless it was inefficiently large. If you're gonna do DWC and you want to put more than one plant in the rez, then just make a common Rubbermaid Tough Neck rez (18 seems the most common on this site), or make one out of a cooler (I think 120quart is a close equiv to 18gal) for cooler temps and easy draining.

I have built and used one of these before. They are a PITA! It's hard to upkeep and requires daily maintenance. Algae WILL be an issue. Mine worked awesome for a couple of weeks for vegging clones and seedlings. It quickly got out of hand and I had major damage to roots when I moved them to bigger containers. What happens is that you need to be able to spread the plants apart as they get bigger and that means trashing lots of healthy roots or starting seedlings/clones 1 foot apart which is a complete waste of space and light. Trust me dude, you'll waste time and money. Ask yourself if you're looking to have a successful garden or just a bunch of experiments. Find a setup in the forum that has proven success and go from there.

THANKS, :] so ill show u what i got as soon as i get double A batteries for a camera but i can find pix on google for now..

so i had 3 plants going in soil... but i needed more soil.. later on cus they got bigger so i got dirt from outside.. but i forgot that the gardener.. freaking sprays the dirt outside with weed poisons... so 3 days alter my plants died after putting outside anti-weed soil with my good soil..

so thats like 3 expensive seeds down the drain (white widow)

so now im starting from scratch germinating another seed..in rockwoool..... in one of these..

im using it as a propogation chamber thingy

and i got a 5 gallon bucket and a really quiet air pump i got from petco.. so when it gets good enough i will move it there..

but the thing is... since i dont have a hole drill

im thinking about... just hanging my netpod thing in the air using some plastic covered wire... with the airstone below it..

i mean idk its what im doing i dont have pictures yet i bet you have a good idea bout what im talking about.. what do u guys think?

thanks rocky for posting that dwc design... that is exactly what i was thinking of doing, and you demonstrated it to me perfectly! thanks man! i mean that entire set-up will be a perfect fit in the cab im going to build -- well gut, then build. but seriously thanks mang. cheers.

You NEED to block out all light, so you should just get the lid for the bucket and drill a hole. I know ghetto rigging is fun and easy, but you don't wanna try to do that with your rez.
