is there a real advantage to using these? what sort of yields can come from a LED grow. I am very weary of both of these, but might give them a shot if someone can give me some good info on them
the stem on that plant is hugh compared to the bud.Of course there are advantages of using CFL's and LED lights over HPS/MH; As there are advantages of using HPS/MH over LED/CFL
As a few pointed out; it's somewhat dependent on your situation.
*For example*
I choose not to go HPS/HM because
1.) I am growing for personal consumption.
2.) I don't need to invest in a bulky item such as a CoolTube setup *Bulky in comparison to the alternate*
3.) As you noted *And I've proven to myself* You don't need a HPS/HM setup in order to enjoy the growing process.
4.) With my CFL setup; I can adjust individual CFL height.
One thing that I've noticed on this forum and others which are MJ growing orientated; Proven growing methods such as those done with a HPS setup are a dime a dozen.. As they have been around for a long time;
Mention LED's and shit hit's the fan... 99% of those people *those who do not feel LED setups can yield anything worthy of the cost of a LED* it seems have absolutely no experience with those lights, they are just blatantly saying "No, they are shit in comparison; get a HPS setup and use the LED as supplemental lighting." Of course, the guy with 25,000 posts to his name that swears by his 500 Harvests by way of HPS... " it works for him..... People assume "Look at that guy.. he knows.. If HPS has worked for him, and he/she has all this experience.. blah blah blah.. "
There are Shit HPS/HM setups out there.. Look at Craigslist; you'll see 'em.... They look like they were hand made.... Are they going to perform as well as the HPS/MH setup the guy with 25,000 posts has? No fucking way.
The same goes for LED lights.. Hobbyist/Grower can see it as an alternate due to their unique situation.
1.) Preference
2.) Space
3.) Electricity bill "LED's vs HPS.. Which do you think is cheaper?"
4.) Heat (LED's give off next to no heat in comparison to HPS/HM) etc..etc..
I personally think that, yes.. a top of the line HPS/MH setup in comparison to a top of the line LED setup; HPS wins.
Why?
Top of the line LED will cost much more then the HPS
If you can support the HPS setup; then heat is not an issue/concern
dsnutts: "CFL is a good alternative but will not produce like Hps or mh.." Personal experience or hearsay? Give us an example if possible; with pics? Did you run a comparison with CFL's and HPS/MH lamps? Or are you reiterating what other people are stating? That's the problem; no one thinks... We're all too stoned. :>
The image attached is Nirvana's Blue Mystic, Grown in Soil under "3" 6500 42w clf's *Vegged for 1 1/2 Months*, Flowering under "3" CFL's for (I believe the pic was 17 or 18 days after I went 12/12).
Show me a comparable flowering plant that's 17-18 days since switching to 12/12 via HPS.(give me a 400w/600W HPS flowering lady; I expect her to be what? 2x the size? twice as thick?)
the stem on that plant is hugh compared to the bud.
yeah u have a good strong base and lots of time for your nugs to swell. just remember to turn the fan down to let the plant put all it power to the bud.Well she did Veg for 1 1/2 Months and that pic is 18 days since the switch... The cola's seen in the pic are as wide as my clenched fist. the stem is as wide as my pinkey finger.
I'll take some comparative pics .vs. a lighter or something to give a better idea of that thickness.. At least I know she'll hold up her cola's without assistance. (Lot's of Air Movement in my Wardrobe)
no. no worries sounds like you got it down pat.guess its just genetics like thick fingers.Sorry, what do you mean? Turn the fan down?
I have the fan sitting at the top of the Wardrobe at an angle of 135. Nothing direct on the plants aside from the Intake CFM fan that sit's at the 2 foot mark in my wardrobe.
She's blowing 24/7 (the osolating fan) as are the CFM fans.
Are you recommending that I include my Osolating Fan in my 12/12 light cycle? I am not intending on putting up Stocks to support my stems; as I am hoping that she'll be able to support them on her own..
Looking forward to your response.
Thx
and maybe thick buds yeah.no. no worries sounds like you got it down pat.guess its just genetics like thick fingers.
