I have a lot of stump pix. My point is that they get just as big as any other plants, with roots a foot or less deep.

My methods are intended to yield the most return with the least effort.

Why?

I'm a senior who spent forty years beating up my body in construction.

Digging deep holes hurts!

i'm not here to argue. you go ahead and make up whatever excuses you want. me, i'll throw my back into it and just dig a deeper hole. plants have always liked deep holes and i have nothing new to prove. i'm digging deep holes. as deep as i can and then another 6 inches.

I've tried a lot of different things. Many methods were tried and discarded long before I started growing Cannabis.

Until you've tried something different, don't assume yours is the only way.

fdd that is an awesome tap root. veggie do you have an pics of one of your root systems. the old timers around here dig HUGE holes and get HUGE plants.

"mine" is the way it's always been done. i did not invent it. i follow what people have been doping since they started planting plants. i'm not the one trying to change things. that would be YOU.

No, I've never tried to preserve an entire root system. The roots are fine, and often six feet long. Mostly in the top six inches of soil, and intertwined with other plants roots.

Here's a pic of last year's largest plant, taken on June 12th, last year.

Amazing how much the weather can make a difference.

from the looks of what i can see in this pic, those roots went A LOT deeper than 6 inches. but whatever, ......

i see 3 or 4 side tap roots and then a tangle of what appears to be 5 or 6 main tap roots that headed STRAIGHT DOWN. way more than 6 inches.

My comments are based on experience. Are yours?

Or have you had a little success with one method and are too narrow minded to try another?

Dig all the holes as deep as you want, OR maybe try something a bit different and learn something?

What you are seeing are the root mass from inside of a one gallon pot, about eight inches deep. After transplanting, the roots spread out, under a heavy mulch, near the surface.

My father in law was a farm hand for fifty years. He kept a garden.

Instead of mulching his garden, he preferred spending days with a hoe in his hands.

Eventually, I gave up suggesting using mulch, once I realized he enjoyed using that hoe.

Some folks enjoy doing it the way their grandparents did.

His veggies were just as tasty as mine.

Until now, root systems had never been an issue.

But fdd has accused me of lying, so I'll defend my comments. Take a look at my methods. Nearly all my plants are flowered in a one gallon pot, harvested, and transplanted into the ground. Those large roots would have become tap roots had they needed water. Instead they spread horizontally.

Have you ever looked at the roots in a hydroponic system?

Ever wonder how a large plant can have such small root system?

BECAUSE THEY HAVE MOISTURE AND NUTES DELIVERED TO THEM.

They don't have to search for them.

Yes, I've seen some longish roots, but in general the roots are far shorter.

I imagine you'd claim all eggs are blue if you saw a robin's egg, as well.

Your method works for you. At least enough that you are willing to tell others their own methods are worthless.

Mine works well for me. I offer an alternative to your arduous methods.
