6.4 Weeks into flower and im sure this yellowing is not normal

I know its normal for the fan leaves to go yellow near the end. But as you can see, these are not fan leaves, and they are not just going yellow. There are also brown dead spots.

No idea what strain. Soil grow, i am highly suspicious that it is heat stress (there are a number of reasons which would indicate this).

The question is, has anyone seen these kinds of problems due to the light being too close? Should i harvest early? How bad should i let this get?

The problem doesn't seem too serious...you definitely should not chop early.........if you suspect your light is too close then just move it back up a few inches....

so the shake is turning yellow, not so much of a big deal, unless you want to make hash with the clippings

Yeah i've done that, but the yellowing of the fan leaves is getting pretty intense at the top and its starting to get really close to the buds. I just don't know how bad to let this get.

Interestingly, the buds and leaves just below the canopy are fine. Perfectly green and healthy. This is part of the reason why i suspected heat stress. Along with the fact that the canopy on the outside (where the light has to travel further) is looking pretty normal. Slight yellowing, but nothing extreme with buds yellowing like in the picure.

Another reason i suspect heat stress is because the buds and leaves further from the light appear to be much more frosty compared to the very top canopy. The trics on the leaves which have this problem arent as prominent and dont cover as much of an area. As if the excess light/heat has ruined the tric's on the buds getting the "best" light.

I've brought buds in the past which were covered in shit yellow leaves with no trics on them. I dont know what the grower did to the plants but i definitely don't want that shit.

I definitely want to make hash/oil with the shake. But surely you're not telling me that you would trim off those tiny leaves that i've circled? Those are completely smokable. They are part of the bud. If you manicured all those parts you'd have nothing left.

Looks like some of the nute burn has made its way to the top of the plant. Possibly compound by heat. I would back the food and lights off just a bit.

Yeah i've moved the lights, and yes there definitely was nute burn a while ago - but for the next 2 feeds (every 5 days) i used just a small amount of molasses. I havent added any nutes since the burn signs started appearing about 2 weeks ago - just molasses. But molasses does contain alot of nutes. Maybe i should have just used straight water.

From now on it will just be plain water. I just hope they last another week without deteriorating too much (again, fan leaves im not worried about - it's the small leaves poking out of the buds as pictured). If it gets too bad i'll have to pull early.

You usually save the bud trimmings for hash production, cuz without buds or shake, what's left that has tricones to make hash? stems? fan leaves? roots?

If there are trichomes on it, its good for hash/oil. So no stems and only fan leaves with trichomes. I don't know about you guys but whenever im manicuring my buds there is heaps of trimmings which are still covered in trichomes. Why would you cut out those little tiny leaves poking out of the buds which are covered in trichomes? Some of the bigger leaves get chopped, but there are still plenty on those for hash.

you have a big ass cola man, you will have plenty left LOL. also that isnt enjoyable to smoke nor is it part of the bud. if you are talking about a serious sativa plant, thats a different story. these fat indica buds ....you wanna trim that shit off.

i kinda agree but 45 days in, he should be considering final flush stage anyhow so perhaps just stop them all together. on the other hand, the bud has alot of white hairs yet .... his choice.

I wouldn't worry and WOULD NOT cut it until the trichs are clouded well over and hairs turn. If the buds were stressed the hairs would have died off fast. You are fine.

Many people choose to trim the fan leaves to free up more room for buds to grow, that is a mistake. In the final stages of budding, the plant will draw all the goodness out of the leaves in a final attempt to seed. It's around this time many people cut their crop, because they think it's dying, well it is, it's killing it's self, but your buds will double in size if you just leave it. Leaves will drop off when they're done.

Thanks man. They have been on a pretty good growth spurt in the last 2 weeks. Remember we're smoking the trichomes here. There's not much worth smoking in the rest of the plant matter. If its seriously covered in trics, then its good for smoking. Most of those tiny leaves poking out of the buds are just as coated as the calyx's and i see no real reason to cut those off. Unless the leaf protrudes too far out of the bud, or its not completely coated in trichs then i just leave it on there.

Bigger yeah but i'm not sure if they will double in size, but i agree with everything else. Chopping off fan leaves is always a bad idea unless they are looking terrible and almost completely devoid of life. Alot of people harvest too early. But with that said, if the buds start to get too yellow or burnt like in the picture in the original post, then i'd rather harvest slightly early. If you look at my grow in my sig you can see pictures of the trichomes. Alot of them are getting cloudy and some of the small ones are getting amber. I will probably harvest in one week. Needless to say, water only from here.
