Hi, you have a few options.. you could either run 3-4X 250W ENVIROLITEs or 6X 125W ENVIROLITEs, or a crazy amount of household CFLs, Personally I would recommend either of the 1st options, but option 1 will still set you back around 180-250 Quid (uk pounds) inc CFL hangers or option 2 around 210 (uk pounds) inc. CFL hangers, my question is would you not prefer to spend that money on a decent air cooling system so you can still run your 600? what type of grow are you doing is it in a cupboard or in a room etc? write back soon and I'll give you a more detailed answer :) hope this helps - STELTHY

You could even down stage to a 400W HPS but your still going to have to consider air cooling of some sort :) HID bulbs do burn hot I am having the same trouble but am slowly sorting it out :) - STELTHY

thanks... a small closet... i have a cooltube 6" and good extractor pushing air though it... it still doesnt work... i am getting 98degF.. it is comfortable for the back of my hand (17 inches away.) but i was told 90F is too much.. i then placed a fan facing the light, it still feels cool when the plants are... i dont think its hot for my hand... but the thermometer reads 98degF

wont x 2 300w Blue CFL be ok? it should output around 40000lumens... 10000 per sq ft... therefore, isnt this sufficient enough?

100*f is not all that hot.

Whats your space? have ANY external air coming into it? have circulation?

Think about it, alot of places that cannabis is commercially grown reach temps well about 100f, but they have massive amounts of circulation. (Referring to the native lands of the cannabis species of plant)

My space gets to about 97* with no problems, i think cannabis thrives on heat sometimes dependent on the strain. It allows some of the plants native molecules to move more freely and work more efficiently.

Cannabis came from generally hot, humid regions of the world.

i have another extractor pushing air inside too.. but still at 100*F. how much heat would one 300w cfl light give out?

I know a 600 watt hps is hot, but I thought 600 watts of clf light would be even hotter, just spread out over more area/bulbs. I thought hps lights were more efficient, producing more lumens and less heat per watt than cfls. Am I wrong?

As far as I am aware the 300w CFLs are fake ie the actuals watts are more like 150 actual watts... If I post you a pic of how I have my 600 in a cupboard setup maybe this could help you I'll add a link too cos its an on going work in progress at the moment :) - STELTHY

If you completely stop the HPS and use the 300W blue CFL's you are going to be utterly UTTERLY disapointed in your end resuly IMHO! Compared to what you COULD achieve with the light you have now. Are you sure you've got the cooltube and everything set up right?.. I'd do anything and everything I could to get them temps down and keep the HPS! I PROMISE you sir that your yield will be much grater with that HPS! And your buds much more dense! And better overall product in general.

So, you could go spend money on CFL's and get some maybe slightly less potent, most DEFINITELY less dense, and less quantity in your harvest...

OR you can just use that money to FIND a way to cool it down in there. Get some CO2. But dude you WANT to keep the HPS, trust me!

That's my $0.02 anyways. Take what you will, leave what you want

this is how I 1st had my setup running BUT! because the fan was pushing the hot/smelly air not 'sucking' the temps were to high... so (next pic not so clear :) !! ) I changed the fans position to the top (outside) and had it sucking the air out, I also have a 6" ducting hose that goes up into my loft to pull in cold fresh air :) - STELTHY

its exactly like yous but i have a carbon filter.. i dont think my extractor is pushing throughenough air.. does it push alot of air out of your grow room? (litres per min?)

This pic was taken when I realised temps were too high and some more/new mods were needed :) but if you look at the top you can roughly see the position of the in-line fan and filter, I also have a 250w 400w and 600w ballast's on a switch so I have even more control over temps :).... I like to mod :) anyway this way round I am getting temps of 33oC and thats before the ducting is propperly connected to the loft with another in line fan to help draw in the cold air I expect mid 20's...........perfect- STELTHY

Oh yea good thinking stealthy! I had some mad heat issues too when I was 'PUSHING' air out of my grow room instead of 'PULLING' the air out. It always works MUCH better to 'PULL' air rather than try to 'PUSH' it. So now we ask you, is your exhause fan 'PULLING' or 'PUSHING' the air? That honestly could solve ALL of your problems right there!

you can grab some steel coated 45 watt cost around 20 buck at any hardware shop , 45watt cfl = 200 watt its cool white really good before having a 400 watts, pick 2 to 4 and just spread them in each corner of the box easily it will produce enough light to make ur plan live and grow still hard it produce directional light so thats why its good to spread them in corner or around the plan because it dont penetrate de plan very much but still enough effective

been growing 2 grow with 2x45watt cfl 1meter high sativa in a 5 gal
