Any advice on my setup :)

Hi all, I am new to growing and new to this forum, here is my problem.

I started off with 3 seeds (not eaven sure of the strain) on the windowcill, untill the hight in the first picture.

I then moved them into my cupboard, and so far, this is how they have come out.

I have 2 100W philips "classictone" lightbulbs in a reflector at the top, and an F36W/35-535 4ft tube light on the door, just to add more light, i also have an oscilating fan above the whole setup to keep the aimbient temperature down a little.

All lighting except the fan is on a 12/12 timer. (fan on 24hrs)

I have also got 5 pellets for each plant, tiny mirracle grow ones apparently at 14-14-14 just for added nutrition.

I do belive these plants have been growing (since the window cill picture) 19 days.

When could i expect them to start budding, is my lighting sufficient?

Any help would be great, thanks all :)

It looks like your plants are stretching for more light.

You need to use the correct spectrum of lighting.

veg is 6400k

Flower is 2700k

You need to do some research.

If you are using flouros then you need to get them within a couple of inches of the tops of your plants.

yeah there stretching put the lights as close as u can almost touching if possible "if there fluroscent". your plant will not start budding until its mature enuff.. so once its a decent size it will start budding.

Would some wire mesh be ok above the plants and lowering the bulbs down a bit help, at this moment in time i cannot offord new bulbs. Thanks :)

the trouble is that if you do not know what spectrum lamps you are using you could be using the completely wrong type and therefore the plants arent getting the right spectrum to grow properly.

When you lower lights you have to be carefull of how close you get them due to temps.

If you have any more info from your lamps that would help with helping you.

Spectrum this will be number with a K at the end of it.

for eg 6400k
2700k


Whatever info you can get from your lamps would help us to help you.

They are now about 4/5 inches away from the bulbs, temps are not tooo bad, ill go and get my temperature sensor for my multimeter and check them if that would help.

Also, how much water is suitable for these plants? i use about 3/4 of a glass between 3 plants.

hello my friend, first is to keep it simple, if you're using normal lights( florescent ect..) then make sure there cool white for veg stage, which is what you're in. also give the seedlings more light, ie 18 -24 hrs with the lights as close as.

yes timer should be set to 18/6 but it all depends as you can grow from seed on 12 12 and get bud in around 10weeks from seed.

I use the following lights if this helps you out

1 x 24w 6400k T5 i use this for the first 10days
1 x 200w 6400k ECO light i use this for another 10 days
1 x 600w Dual Spectrum HPS i use this for a further few weeks of veg and then switch to 12 12

these are the 3 lamps that i use.

Normal light bulbs are not ideal and you could do with spending a little money and getting the correct spectrum lamps

But the 2 lightbulbs are "normall" bayonet house lightbulbs ..... normal lights give a red spectrum of light mixed with white i think.. they maybe ok for the flowering stage which would be when you'r plants are at least 4-5 weeks old, then you may think of a 12/12 light cycle to sex you're plant

Wow, thats some knowledge right there. On my desk infront of me now, i have a BIGG Venture white-lux HIT 250W/U/LU/4k bulb, but its blown unfortunantly, I will be looking into lightbulbs more deffiantly, as soon as funds go in :)

But for now, i will have to keep using the ones im using, i WISH my florescent bulb wasnt 4ft long, or i could get that above the plants, but for now, its screwed to my door as you can see in the last picture :)

I was using sunlight for the first week or so, but then it just started raining, and has been doing ever since, ive lowerd the lights down now, ill get a side view sorted for you, REALLY dont want these to die, only seeds i have, surely i can fix them if i SCOUR the earth for a decent set of bulbs.

Would more of the Philips bulbs be ok? I could have 4 on instead of 2? thats 436W all together?

Also, how is my watering, is it sufficient :) Thanks

about watering, you need to make a few drain holes in what ever you have the plants in, if a cup, make a few at the bottom and water till it comes out a lil, then wait a few days, check the soil to see if it is dry or still a lil moist, for me it is a lil moist I still water, a good thing to do is say, if in a cup then every 2 or 3 days sence there is less dirt ( as long as they have drain holes ) this is just me, but it has worked for me, it has kept them from getting root rot, and like the other people said , place the lights closer, this will also keep them from streaching the stem. A good way to see if the light is close enough or to close, is to put your hand at the top of the plant, if your hand gets hot and feels like it could burn then to close move the lights back a lil bit till it doesnt hurt ya hand.

here is some details on them

Philips Spiral CFL, 42W (150W Incandescent Equivalent) with Medium Base & 2700K Warm White Color. (diameter 2.8", length 7.1").

notice the 2700k,( if I read correctly they said that is the amount of light spectrum ) the higher the number the better later on in your grow( flowering stage ), that is what I have read anyways.

but would like someone to comfirm this.

I have to use 240v ones as i am uk based, but ok, ill have a look arround :)

Im SURE i know someone who has a "spare" set of lamps, but at the moment he is in hospital.
