hi yall, I've been searching for some containers that would be suitable for a large (150 gal) dwc grow. I got a rubbermaid roughneck 37 gallon tub from home depot, but when i filled it with water the sides started to bend. does anyone know of a suitable container that wont bend under the weight of all that water?

why not build your own try? lowes has shower liner thats 5 feet wide and as long as you want so you could make it say 12" high x 3 feet wide and how ever long you want it and get some foam siding and cut some holes in it for net cups and flot them if your going SOG.

actually I found some containers at home depot if any of you are interested, they're called the best plastics "strong box", the only one i could find came in 27 gallons (i dont know if they make larger) but for the container and lid it was like $25. so I think i'll just get 5 of them, thanks for the responses guys

Doing DWC I've read that some people have had problems where 1 plant got a root problem and it ended up hurting the other ones.

I would recomend getting a 30 - 60 gallon air pump, bigger if you can get one. Green air rocks not the air tubes because thoes aren't that good. Air hose, splitters. containers to fit 1 to 4 plants in them I would do 1 to 4 per thing but always have a spare one that your not using so that when its time to clean you can just get the one that isn't in use set it up and take the plants out of the 1 and clean that one this way you can always have 1 that you can put the plants in to clean the other one with out having to find a spot to put them.

If you want I haven't done it my self nor do I like the thought of doing it this way but you could use a fish tank and have a platform that floats on the top of the water.

I used to use 18 gallon tupperware containers (5 of them at 6 plants each) But I found keeping the nutes the same a hassle. Then I came across a luggage topper for a moterhome that was 3 x 4 feet. Drilled a drain hole at 1 end and siliconed it.(You could use a deep 4' x 4' flood table for this)Then drilled 24- 3 1/4 inch holes in a piece of plywood and set it in to the topper. I use hydrocorn with 3" mesh pots and an eco-plus air pump with 8 outlets running 8 5" airstones. Works awesome and I can keep my nutes at a lvl that is easy to maintain. these plant have been in this for 3 weeks.

damn you are gonna grow in just 1 150 gallon tub goodluck with that but what you should do is just have that 150 gallon as a main res and just put a float valve in your controller bucket and connect it to your main res trust me its gonna be way eaiser just imagine having to deal with all that waste water when you have to change the water damn

^^ I agree. If you go with a single 150 gallon DWC setup your better off doing a flood and drain or a Aero Setup.

Plus the nute prices would be out of control. a res like that with the basic GH line (basic grow/micro/bloom) you would be using like 3.4 liters per res change @ ~1000ppm. That's a shitload of nutes.

Actually you can use the solid 20-20-20 plant food in a DWC I only use 8th teaspoon in about 2 to 3L DWC but using liquid plant food yea it will use alot not to mention the amount of money you'd be shelling out. Only a person with a good paying job or a person who's selling their finished product can afford the cost of that size of a DWC. At that rate your almost better off doing a Aero setup that way you don't need as much

150 US gallons = 567... l
Going through the math you would be using a bit above 28tsp (like 1/2 a cup) for that size res with your 1 part. That is also without calculating the ppm that it would be running at.. so it could be considerably more than this or somewhat less. The cheapest I could think of is Jacks. That would be the most cost effective way but that is still a lot of nutrients to go through. I am partial to 2 parts because of the micro nutes provided and the ability to provide more readily available nutes without salts/other insoluables falling out.
IMO, you aren't almost better going another way (aero, nft, ebb n flo, whatever), you definitely are at least in ease of maintenance and the continuous cost. The only drawback I could see is initial cost but that would likely be overcome through the 150gal res changes through your first run.

That's why I said Aero or Flood and Drain would work because you won't need as much compared to a DWC because with Aero and Flood and drain the water goes back into the res unlike DWC where your plants are in the res

see, I already had a 50 gallon setup with 5-gallon buckets and 10 plants, those things were frickin trees once they were done, but changing the nutes on that many buckets was a bitch, (so thats why i'm switching to 5x 27 gallon tubs) and I'm going to be doing 32 plants (about 5 gallons of rez per plant). you all talk about the huge cost of nutes on such a large rez, but the thing is if your plants need X amount of nutes per day, they'll need that much whether or not you have a big or small reservoir, dwc, ebb and flow, aeroponics or whatever, so in the end it doesnt really cost you more, you just end up with more yield

1 - In a hydro system you don't give them nutes every day unless you were growing in soil and you used very low nute amount.
2 - The amount of nutes you use doesn't mean you get a higher yeild.
3 - To much nutes will burn and can kill your plants.
4 - The type of light that your using matters the most.
5 - I have 3 plants in a 3L DWC setup of mine and I only give then 1ml of B-1 Thrive and 8th teaspoon of 20-20-20 plant food. The guy who gave me 4 bag seeds started his own seeds to. He gave his natural sun light I have 3 of them that I started under 1 45w CFL and my plants were bigger then his for almost 1 month now his is bigger but I have the light so cloase to my 3 plants that they are bushing out and not growing taller. I find that when I have 3 plants in a single basket they started to bush out alot sooner then in soil because they are fighting to become the best. I rotate the 3L DWC container every day or 2 and I top up the res once every 3 to 4 days when its just below the net pot.

The only reason why my plants grew faster then the guy who gave me 4 seeds is because I started giving them 1ml of B-1 Thrive right from seed and at 2 weeks I started giving them 2ml of B-1 Thrive. At 3 weeks I up-ed it to 3ml of B-1 Thrive. Since they hit 4 weeks I cut down to 1ml of B-1 Thrive and 8th Teaspoon of 20-20-20 solid plant food and they love it.
