Will HPS light cause all growth to fall off half way down stalk?

Ive been using cfl's the past year. Just switched to HPS light a couple of months ago. Got them in flowering stage now. All growth is drying out and wilting from half way down. The rest of the way to top, they are fine. I know normally with the cfl's it would do that 1/4th the way down. But it's half way with the HPS light. Is this normal? I water them every 1 1/2 days and spray the leaves down. If it goes past a day and a half they start to dry out too much.

400 watts and 2 to 3 ft from plants. I don't have a air flow hooked up to it. Sometimes it gets 90 up there in the attic. I got a fan in the grow area and 12/12 lights on at night and off during day to keep temps down when light is on.

from what you said it doesn't sound like a heat problem even tho that's slightly to hot 2- 3 foot away from the plant might be the issue

Sorry didn't read all of the thread, watering every 1 1/2 sounds to much and if its drying out you have humidity problems how far into flowering, leafs will wilt during flowering, your not misting with nutes?

Humidity reads 50. I switched to 12/12 10 days ago. So I need to move light closer? What is the difference between the 16inches verses 3 feet?

I need to see pic's I not sure about misting under a HPS, what's the watt? how far from the light?
No reason you can't mist. I mist all the time. If you're foliar feeding, with fertilizer, you need to do it with the lights off. It's salts that burn plants not water. That whole mess about water drops magnifying the rays is a myth.

Wow. I was spraying with fertilizer. I only did it 3 times about a week ago. After that I ended up refilling the sprayer with just water. So can anyone tell me, what is the difference between keeping a 400 watt hps light say,16 inches away verses 3ft? And is 50 a good humidity temp?
