Drying And Curing Question.

Here, read this. It's about as simple of an explanation as you can get.. on the drying & curing process.

Drying your Marijuana

Drying your medical marijuana buds can take from 1- 6 weeks. Drying time can depend on where
you live and the environment at which the buds are dried in.

How I go about it is:

1. I trimmed all the leaves off the bud I then cut the buds into manageable sizes.(I like mine around 10 inches)

2. I take those 10 inch cut pieces and hang them up in my closet with a small fan at the bottom to keep the air moving and to help create a even dryness to your buds.(do not aim the fan right on the nugs, it will cause them to dry out to fast) The humidity is around 50% in there and the temp is about 68-70 degrees.

3. I keep the closet area very dark and check on my stash daily for any mold, mildew, bugs, even the overall dryness of the bud, or a sample now and then.

4. Next I wait for my smaller branches to do that famous “snap” sound when I apply minimal force to them,(video will address this step) this is when I know it’s getting close for the curing step. Sure enough a few days later the bigger stems are snapping away and the buds feel evenly dry with me giving them a slight squeeze. (sometimes I will clip away the smaller buds to cure while giving the larger buds a few more days or so to dry before placing them in air tight glass jars for curing)

Curing your Marijuana

First I take the larger buds and stack them loose in the tall air tight glass jars, then the smaller nugs will fill up the rest of my glass jars. (do not pack buds tight, 1/2 to 3/4 full at most) For the next week I will empty the jars once a day on a screen to air out for a few minutes then place them back to the jar.

I will also open the jar later that day for a minute or two to recieve some fresh air. (Very important to check for mold or mildew every day) After a week I will only pop the jars twice a day for a couple of minutes to exchange the air. As the weeks go by I open the jars less but still open once a day.

About 4 weeks of that going on and my buds will be nice and crispy with the trichromes sparkling like diamonds.(The longer the cure the better the taste in my opinion) My joints will burn smooth, evenly while tasting very flavorsome.

And there ya have it! It's as simple as that my friends.. its really not that hard. It's not rocket science.. its an art. Growing marijuana takes time.. and over that time.. you'll learn what to do
and what not to do when growing cannabis. Also, patience is key.. to growing cannabis.

That's all for now.. thanks for reading.

whats your opinion on the 4-5 dry method.... (putting on screens in a box with an inline fan and vent holes?

Just read the part about drying temps. Darn, I guess the garden shed and garage are out, too hot. Spare bedroom maybe under the ceiling fan. Great info here, by-the-way. Thanks.

I've got a question for you curing experts, I see most everyone says to burp the jars 2-3 times a day. I am not in a position to be able to burp more than once a day, or at least every 12 - 20 hours or so... is this going to be a problem for me? If I follow the advice most of you have given here and maybe hang dry them for a day or two longer than most, should I be ok only burp my curing buds once every day? I can manage to get all the other criteria met, dark room, air circulation, good temps, but the burping part will be hard with my schedule, how much trouble is this going to cause me? Maybe leave the tops completely off the jars overnight, and on air tight through the day? Open and in need of advice all you ganja gobblers.

worst case scenario, mildew, everything ruined... leaving it open to long might dry it out to quick, but I figure its better risk that then the mildew...I've heard of people putting cotton balls in their jars to help absorb the moisture, but I havn't tried it...

I don't know if I'd try this, but what about those little packets of silicone? Is that what it is? Sometimes they come in pill bottles inside little plastic cylinders. They put them in with electronics to keep them from getting damp. How would those do?

Help me understand the concept before the practice, Basically we just need to dry this (great)stuff out(?), or is the whole wet-dry-wet-dry thing a part of the process, am I to understand that that is just to draw the moisture out of the plant, or what?
I'd be so pissed if I made it to cure with a plant I'm growing as long as the one I am and I f- it all up then... there has to be something out there that can help me cure it unattended?

I think once a day would be fine.

With these things something can always be done better as with everything. But in my case I also only have time to do it once a day.

I have had it hang in a box with a normal fan on them, and if your in a humid area it is maybe not a bad idea. I believe slower is better but then again, if it is to slow you get mold. :-)

Thanks to everyone for posting some interesting questions here. I learn every day.

i like to hang and let em dry first cause when the leaves wrap around the buds i think it will increase the smell / make it last longer, so when i harvest i let em hang for about 6 days. then do my trimming. to be honest i like this method gives me time to trim a a reasonable pace. + thats 6 free days of work i get to do indoor or out in the garden i can get all my cycles transplanted and ready by the time im ready to trim.

I'd lose the news paper stage. There are variables and its dif for everyone and my shit has been drying in four days in 65F and 50RH and I cut them and let them fall right into jars with a hygrometer. Close er up and watch the numbers. I've seen sub cool cure weed for nine months. But I've smoked somemgood ass dank after waiting about a month
