Would you have elective brain surgery?

This isnt hypothetical, its a real question I have to answer for myself. I had some health issues a little while back and recently had a brain MRI that shows a 12MM large cyst on my brain near my temple.

My neurologist appointment was today, he wants me to see a neurosurgeon. The cyst is causing problems for me, I have tremors in my right hand (supposedly might be able to be fixed with meds, Im a tattooist I cant have tremors and work)

I also have a constant pain/pressure on my right eye, constant headache that varies from slight to super Migraine type of shit. When I get tired my speech slurs a little bit and I kind of stumble on my words. I also have a hard time dealing with heat, Im sensitive to it now and it brings out the symptoms fast and more severe.

So the question is do I have it removed and accept all the risks, this IS brain surgery

Or do I try out the meds, let them monitor the growth; hope it doesnt grow more and have it removed if things get worse?

Im leaning heavily towards letting it be and dealing with it as it is. I can live with it and if the tremors are stopped I can work. To be honest Im afraid of the downsides of brain surgery.

If it were me...I'd exhaust all non-surgical methods first and then see if I still need it. Probably would look for a forum/book/article representative of people in a similar situation.

I believe in the power of healing yourself...to some degree. If it doesn't work, then go for surgery.

I personally wouldn't ever do brain surgery. I have other reasons but everyone that gets it comes out a completely different person. They aren't who they were. Im fine with who i am and i don't want to change that. What if you came out against smoking herb?

Yeah thats how im leaning, my wife is pretty scared of the surgery too. My fear of not having the surgery would be not being able to tattoo, I have a wife and 2 kids to support......worst case is I gotta find another means of income to deal with the loss of me not tattooing. I own the shop and have income coming in from the other artists, but my personal appointments would be hard $ to lose. Would have to figure something out.

Im kind of leary of some of the meds too after doing some reading on it, thinking Im just gonna try to address the hand and leg tremors, I can deal with the headache and eye-ache for the rest of my life. MMJ helps out a lot with both. Luckily my new doctor is cool with me using MMJ.

I agree with KBR too. You can always have it done if 'wait and see' doesn't work. A second doctor's opinion is a good idea too. Google the neurosurgeon. Make a list of questions you have so you don't forget during your appointment. Don't be intimidated, ask lots of questions. YOU are the boss of this thing, not the doctors. Good luck to you man, whatever you decide.

it is my honest opinion, and i am no medical professional, that you should go ahead with the procedure ASAP, as long as you have had a concurrent second opinion.
right now, it is encapsulated, that is the growth is encased in a membrane of tissue that is containing it the pressure from the growth on your brain is causing your symptoms.
there is a 90% probability that the onset of symptoms will continue in its severity, eventually overcoming the positive effects of any drug therapy.
then there's another thing... and im not trying to be an alarmist, but you should consider it carefully-
as i said before, that cyst is encapsulated.... no dr is 100% correct until there is dissection and classification.... if your cyst, is not a cyst, and is malignant, and it if per chance it is metastases... your time is suddenly very valuable, you see? i would wnat it out, and want it out now.

but thats all my opinion, you should do what feels right to you in the long run man.

my niece had surgery to remove a golf ball sized tumor from the right side of her brain. they cut a triangle from her skull and removed it then glued that skull back on a couple days later. this was almost three years ago and she still hasnt got her motor skills back. its a scary thing and something i would have to contemplate for a long while to get a decision.

im super sorry to hear your faced with the decision now. you should do some research and find out where that tumor is meaning what that part of the brain operates.

If it were me, I'd probably go for having a normal life. I wouldn't want to deal with constant head eache, and eye ache and hand tremors. Also knowing that there is something inside my brain would bother me.
