hey all, im in the middle of drying my buds, I live in a basement and i got them drying in my closet, the temp in the closet is 76 degrees F, and the humidity is 51%, I have both ac's on in my basement to keep it cool......are these measures good, or should I do anything to change? its about 48 hours since i hung them up, and the bud seems to be drying but its def not dry enough, Im just hoping this stuff doesnt dry to fast, wanna keep them in their atleast 5-7 days before I cure, any suggestions or ideas, please,,, Thanks

You need to lower the humidity to little as possible. The dryer the air is the more trichomes the plant produces to stay hydrated. 20 is perfect I heard. The temp is fine tho. Also the higher the humidity, the higher chance of mold.
should i put in a dehumidifier?? to lower the humidity....

that would be awesome and if it has a setting on it, set it to 20% for humidity level. It will shut off and maintain it at twenty, similar to AC

humidity isnt much a issue durring vegg but can cause serious problems in flowering and drying.

I heard 40% was ideal, as lower than that will dry it out too quick and cause a harsh smoke

this is what i have been told as well. You want the moisture 45-55% just like in flower. This way the air is not so wet as to cause mold, but also not so dry that it dries out the bud in like 2 days. slower is better, and so long as you can avoid mold, humidity is good. if you are at 51% i would say leave it the way it is and if you dehumidify only do it by about 10%. lower than that will dry too fast.
I didnt get the dehumidifier yet, was gonna go in the morning, but now im having 2nd thoughts because my buds are starting to get all crispy and fluffy and its only alittle more then 2 days drying so far - i smoked a few little buds, and i got pretty high, and some smell is there, but I feel like its drying to fast.... is there anything I can do to slow the drying process down or help these buds?

well give one or 2 a light squeeze. are they still a little moist on the inside? the stem snap will tell you this as well. i personally dont wait til the SNAP exactly, i jar them just shy of that. crispy edges, stems that bend but are very close to the snap people look for. again crisp is ok as long as it doesnt crisp all the way through. the lighter, smaller, or fluffier nugs will crisp all the way through faster than colas will, so they need to be watched a little more closely. 2 days does seem pretty fast for 50% humidity and reasonable heat. i would assume these are nugs on the fluffier side?
i would say just keep a close eye, if they seem crispy on the edges do a stem snap test. if it snaps, or feels like it was at least close to doing so (bends stiffly), then you can consider getting them into jars and just being a slightly more attentive with your burping and rotating for the first week.

DOnt listen to the guy who is saying that your bud will "produce trichomes" after it is chopped!!!! 40% with a fan moving air but not blowing directly on the buds. Your conditions are close to ideal just keep an eye out for mold and you should be fine with a nice slow dry.
I got the humidity down to about 47% with the ac's and fans blowing, and when I squeeze the buds, you can still feel the moisture inside, just the outside is crispy, and the stems are just bending, so theres still water in them for sure....today is about 72 hours since i chopped...my temp in the closet is around 73-75 degrees F, i have my ac's on full blast but i cant get it any cooler.........you think its going right?, or should I change anything?? i know on my first crop, the buds dried wayy to quick, and by now they were totally crisp so this time I feel there doin better....I appriciate your help

your doing fine, it will take 5-8 days with those conditions and that is good.i like to jar mine just before the stems really snap at about 7 days.

Nice. I also wait just before the stems "snap".. I put my buds into my curing containers as soon as the outside edges of the buds are dry and crispy.. this helps reduce the chances of 'over drying' the buds. If you over-dry; dry too quickly; the Chlorophyll (the chemical that gives off the "hay" or "freshly cut grass" smell) actually gets trapped inside the buds.. which isn't a good thing at all. Most people think that if this happens to them.. they should just throw the buds away. Wrong! Don't do that.. at least keep the buds and make some ISO hash with them (if they're totally fucked that is).. but generally speaking.. you can actually fix this problem by simply adding a few 'still moist' stems into the mix for a couple of days.. to rehydrate the buds a little bit.. and then go from there and hope for the best. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.. as we all know each scenerio or situation is different in its own unique way.
anyhow, that's my 2cents.
