An AG newbie question

Hello. After seeing the delightful infomercial I have picked up by AG Veggie Extra Elite. First off, thank you for the thourough guide. I have a couple of questions that I would like to address, if I can get some help. It seems everybody here has so much knowledge and is willing to share and it is amazing.

I am growing MMJ soley for personal use, pretty bad injury and I am unwilling to use addictive medicine. So my AG ebing able to produce 2-3 plant every 3 months will be plenty. I am expecting a zipper per plant. Am I in the ball park?

Here are my concerns. I have tried to answer them through reading but cant seem to find the answers.

1. Seed- I am unable to purchasee hi quality. (fear of delivery)I am utilizing left over from a pretty good bag. Since the AG seems to be idiot-proof will I be OK? Basically if it produced the same quality as the bag I'd be happy.

2. Start up/sexing- since I may have male plants can I start 7 plants? How soon can I tell if they are female? Could I post pics and get some opinion? I guess I look for the "balls" any other tips to produce ladies?

3. Set up- My potential set up is stealth and enclosed. Using plastic bins from Wally. I have 2 bins that are 24 inches high, 36 inches wide, 24 inches deep. The bottom one has a hole in the top and the top has a hole in the bottom so I have 4 feet of room. Is there any concern having the AG lights and other CFLs in a plastic bin. I would prefer to not start a fire.

4. Odor-I am concerned about odor. My questions is, with regular product will some air freshenrs be able to work with just a small AG set up? Or will I just have weed that smells like air fresheners? If not, is a charcoal filter needed? When will the odor start?

5. Nutes- I have seen the reccomendations. Is there a big difference between the AG nutes and something like Fox farm. I know there is a differeence, based on what I want to accomplish would you recceomend upgrading nutes. My concern is if I am using regular seed will the AG nutes be enough?

-=-=-=- : First, I am sorry to hear that you are concerned about delivery. (I'd say don't worry about it as seed distributors are well aware of this paranoia, thus they exercise due-diligence when it comes to being discreet.) As for Bag Seed, well.... You never know what you are dealing with in that case.. It can very well be the Strongest smelling herb out there, (Which can be a massive issue to deal with if need be). There are a variety of attributes associated with this bagseed that can be positive and negative.

** I'd highly suggest that if you are willing to spend the time and effort; do so correctly and order some seeds from Attitude or Nirvana and feel confident that you are safe **

-=-=-=- : My aforementioned note regarding strain's coupled with the Aerogarden Reservoir negate this possibility. There's no way you can get any more then 3 Unknown strains to run their full growing course in the Aerogarden, the reservoir is too small. If this is your first time, I say stick to 2 Plants in the AG. (Again, you have no idea what you will end up with, so play it safe)

-=-=-=- : Order, as noted earlier in my response is going to be one of your biggest issues. Assuming that you revise your setup, I would proceed with picking up ONA Pro Gel and a FreeBreeze TruAir carbon filter (Freebreese = Should be available at your local HomeHardware type of place) and the ONA Pro gell at your local Grow Shop.

5. Nutes- I have seen the reccomendations. Is there a big difference between the AG nutes and something like Fox farm. I know there is a differeence, based on what I want to accomplish would you recceomend upgrading nutes. My concern is if I am using regular seed will the AG nutes be enough?

-=-=-=- : Start with the "Starter"Tabs in the AeroGarden. Take 1/2 of a Starter tab and dissolve it in distilled water. Once 100% dissolved; pour that Distilled water into your AeroGarden till she's full!
Week 1 = 1/2 Dissolved Starter Tab in AG
Week 2 = Take 1/2 of a TSP of your Hydro Nutes (Vegging) and add it to 1 gallon of Distilled water. Begin to Top off the Reservoir every day.
* Moving Forward, 1 tsp Of your Hyrdo Nute (Vegging) per 1 Gallon of Distilled Water. Top off, through to your Flowering Stage. * At that time, replace the 1tsp of your Vegging Nute for 1tsp of Bloom Nute per 1 Gallon of distilled water. *

Finally, I can give you the following advice. You will become very proud once your plants start to grow. I highly suggest that you order some Automatic Seeds to start, considering your implied setup..etc..etc..

Thanks for the reply. Here are a couple of questions.

1. Seeds- odering them. I read alot on the website from Nirvana, they seem to be the best. Do most folks just have them delivered to their home?

2. Set up- How would you reccoemnd to change? I have an area that is 4 feet wide up to 8 feet tall and 5 feet deep. Plenty of room for my AG and the plastic tubs I plan to have it in. To avoid the heat issue should I ditch the tubs and put up a curtain? If I keep the tubs should I install an intake and outtake fan? I have the tubs to combat odor a later date.

3. Odor- When can I epxect the odor to start. Knowing that I do not have the knowledge of what seed I have. Does the odor start around the flowering stage?

4. Seed- what would you reccomend with my set up? I can change the set up but the stealth aspect is needed. I looked at the PPP and Northern Light from nirvana. Is that the best option for low(er) odor?

5. Tent- I have seen a 32 x 32 x 63 mylar grow tent. This can solve my stealth issue, becasue I can hid the tent. If I used this will it help? Is it better than the tubs? Back to odor, will this keep the smell in the tent?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

-=-=- : I have ordered via Nirvana plenty of times. I have them shipped to my house. (Others will not agree that's a good thing.. Dependent on where you are.. ) friends in Canada and the US have not had any problems. they usually start to get nervous then freak out when 2 weeks pass and nothing has arrived.. If you order, please.. Be patient.

-=-=- : Go with the tent you noted below. Be sure to have good Air Circulation. (i.e. Fans)

-=-=- : Yes. Typically it will start once the plants begin to Flower. You may notice a smell earlier on; yet 1/100 of the potential smell you can experience during flowering.

I'd say, go for a 5 pack of Northern Lights Automatic. Get a Figure 8 cord from your local Radio Shack and a Timer. Set it to 20 Hours of Light and 4 hours Off. Grow 2 of the 5 seeds from Nirvana.
This will be a GREAT start for you my friend. take it slow at first.. Even One plant (at first) will be sufficient. You'd be happy with one. Make your mistakes and learn from them.. :>

I'd go with the tent. I've found that the RubberMaid type of Bin get's VERY HOT.. You want the environment to be secure and stable.

1.You'll get what you put in and you might want to consider pollinating a bud for seeds for future cultivation. Please clarify what a zipper is.
2.You can start that many but it'w way too much for the system. That's the problem with seven M/J plants at that stage you're going to have a mess on your hands. You won't believe the roots. Germinate two to three seeds at a time and go by Cervantes's advice in germination and lighting. If you don't have his book on the cultivation of medical M/J, you'll want it. They have it at Barnes and Noble.
3. A fire is one thing but you need air circulation as well. I'm not a fan of locking up my plants in closets or cabinets and the hood with those three flat high intensity CFL's does get hot.
4. Yeah, they do stink. When mine are flowering I use gel air fresheners from the Dollar Tree Store and they do a pretty good job, better than anything else I've tried.
5. Definitely. You can use A/G's nutes but they're designed for cooking herbs. I've had very good luck with Technaflora's "Recipe for Success." You can get a starter kit from your hydroponics store and it has everything you'll need from germination to harvest. It'll also last for a long time. You'll find it near impossible to flower M/J on A/G's nutes since they are high nitrogen for maximum vegetative growth.

Thanks for the great info!

1. Zipper =oz. I'm sticking with bag seed. Initially I am really happy with my progress. I followed direction to a T so far. I am adding more CFLs tomorrow. I have the AG on 24 hour light. I have it on for 1 day and already I see 1.5 inch sprouts in less than 24 hours. I am using Fox farm nutes.

2. Following your advice I started 2. I took 4 other germs and put them in a small container with Miracle Grow potting soil and put it near the AG lights. 2 of them have sprouted. I have that as a back up. Is this a bad idea?

3. In my tent I am adding 2 fans and a home made carbon filter for exhaust. Any downside to that?

4. My concern with the odor is keeping it in the tent. I hope with the filter and some air fresheners I will be OK. I need to keep costs down (Ag + tent was expensive) so I am doing the home made version with a carbon filter.

So far I am happy and surprised with my progress. I have been reading and hearing that blue CFL are key at first for veg. I am finding a problem in finding the Kelvin on the light bulb box. Im planning on 6 150 watt (4 watt energy)cfls. Im going to look for the most blue spectrum.
