Judyism. Something we can all believe in

Welcome back all.

I've got some pics of Judy's home to share.
First her cabinet. As I described before Judy (and the Judettes) live under a workbench in a garage. There is not a lot of UP space so training is necessary.
Judy-8-20-10-3.jpg From left to right we have a black fan filtering all air entering the cabinet. Right above that is my Fantech inline fan pulling air through my scrubber (far right) and exhausting out the back wall. The two milk jugs you see hanging are blocks of ice cooling the air as it blows across them. The condensation drips into the white bucket and small black bin.
The clip on fan in front of the bucket I added a day or so ago for stem strengthening. And of course there is judy with 700 watts of CFL around her. The striped thing and yellow panel on the right are sticky traps and in the back behind the bucket is a no pest strip for Borg killing:twisted:
Judy-8-20-10-4.jpg Here is Judy with a Dr Pepper can in back for scale. The ornaments are weights to train her to go wide. I use some gardener strap and washers as weights. I can add weight as needed and it is easy to move them out as she grows.
Judy-8-20-10-6.jpg Next a different view of Judy.:-P

Judy-8-20-10-5.jpgJudy-8-20-10-1.jpgJudy-8-20-10-2.jpg Finally we have the Judettes. the tall one (Judette 1) sprouted 7 days ago and the other (Judette 2) sprouted 4 days ago. I plan on giving Judette 2 a new pot in about a week.
 I love my little ladies.
At least they better be ladies or  they will :fire:DIE Horrible Deaths:fire:

Can anyone tell me what's the earliest I can sex these (I hope) ladies and send them back into grow mode?:weed: I originally did not intend to do seeds but the Borg made me panic and they are here now so....

:peace: All

And Have fun Storming the Castle boys!!!:)

Judy just woke up. Her AM is 8 PM. That way her lights are off during the hottest part of the day. It gets:fire: toasty:fire:sometimes here in S Cal. Even more so in Riverside County.
Just added a small fan in the cabinet. Needed something to thicken the stalks. I have :joint: high hopes for Judy.

My watt meter shows that with 3 fans and 900 W CFL and a timer I am only drawing 250 watts actual. I masked the power increase by shutting off a computer that ran 24/7 with a 450 watt PS.
So power wise this grow saves me some $$$ :hump:

Had some nice Vape a bit ago and then tended to Judy's needs.
Not sure if that was great hits:eyesmoke: or the no pest thing fumes ..:spew:

well :peace: all.

Oh I checked her PH and the soil reads 6.2 so maybe I am on the right track

Have fun storming the castle...
I'm guessing it only shows you are drawing 250 watts because you are reading the "equivalent" wattage rating & not the true wattage rating of your bulbs? Going back through your pics there's no way you are getting 900 watts from the lights I see unless those big ones are 250 watt bulbs. Good news is, you don't need anymore than that like I said before. ;)

Once you put them into flowering you can't go back into veg or you run the risk of turning your female plants hermaphrodite. You can sex them all together, male plants won't pollenate a female for about 2-3 weeks & that's more than enough time to determine sex, most males show for sure in 5-7 days. Females can take 5-10.

DO NOT use clear containers for your clones or any other planting. Use something that will block out the sun, it's vitally important to root health.

I believe big judy needs more nitrogen. You can get some at wal mart cheap, alaska fish emulsion 5-1-1 will work fine. ($6) Would've been good to mix espoma plant tone ($10) 5-3-3 into your soil before you transplanted, but it's a little late for that at least for Judy.

Thank you again for the advice. After watching Germination Methods 101 I realized the clear is not good. I will wrap brown paper around that to block the light. That way I can open to visually check the roots for repot time..
 It still amazes me how much there is to growing these girls.

Lights, I have a total of 900 watts equivalentin CFL (2x 200W 2700K, 3x 100W 3100K 2x 100W 5000K) all for an actual watt draw of 215. Add in the fans and my newest addition (a fountain pump) and I have a total actual watt draw of 265 Watts.
I thought that I had control of the heat issue but in reality :dunce: not. My original copper coil with a block of ice inside while blowing air through it seemed ok at first but had some major issues.:x
My next effort with hanging the milk jugs of ice in the fan air stream had limited success but as my Ol lady pointed out  when (not if) the milk jug's handle failed the result would be crushed judys .

:idea:With all that in mind I have come up with plan C.
I think this just might do it.
I used a $2 cat litter pan, a $15 fountain pump I had laying around, 30' of 1/4" copper tube laying around (yes I have lots of shit "laying around") that I coiled up and suspended over the litter pan and in front of my air intake fan, and of course the milk jugs filled and frozen over night (4 so one is always completely frozen).
I put the pump in the pan, added 1/2 gallon of water (1 or 2 drops of bleach keep the water clean), set a jug O ice in and the pump. a few feet O plastic tubing that I had (you guessed it) laying around from the pump to the top of the coil and from the bottom of the coil into the jug O ice.
Plug the pump in and presto. The pump pushes the water through the coil where the fan blows warm air across it. The water absorbs the heat from the air and deposits the warmed water into the jug O ice which overflows the now cooled water into the pan to start the cycle over again.

:arrow:Judy-8-21-10-1.jpg
I know it's a :!: bit Rube Goldberg (for those of you under 30 look that up) but it just might succeed in keeping the temp in the correct range on those 100 degree days out here in the inland empire.
This was not an issue on my first grow but my Ol lady vetoed the use of our spare bathroom this time and my garage has no real A/C so you do what you must to keep Judy and the Judettes alive.

One more quick pic on judy today. After lots O time adjusting Judy's training harnesses and seeing how many branches she really has I am thinking that I am going to concentrate on the training and not top her any more.
So here she is in full harness. Her top needs to grow a little more before I harness that but I do believe I have this in control (for now)
Judy-8-21-10-2.jpg She really is not as yellow as the pics show. its the lighting, Really.

So thanks again for stopping by and sharing what you all know to help me do right by Judy and the Judettes.

May all your tokes be smoooooth and mellow.

Stopped on by the home depot and grabbed some more soil and two 5" pots. Transplanted both of the judettes into containers that will be big enough till they are sexed at about 35 days.
Either they are ladies or:twisted: they die a horrible death.:fire:

So :peace: be to all.
And to all a good :bigjoint:

Theoretically a very cool set up (pun intended) have you tested temps to see if it's keeping them down more?

Tell your old lady you are only gonna use the bathroom for flowering & just veg in the garage. Tell her rombomb said it's ok. lol

Happy Monday all. I'm back with more pics and an update.
First since transplanting Judy to a larger pot she is doing well again. The brown (looked like burn) spots on the new growth have grown out and the new new is again green and pretty:weed:.
judy-8-23-10-4.jpg This pic shows the now grown our damage. Thanks Rombomb for the tip. :blsmoke:
She is looking better now and the training is going well. The green tie + washer system seems to work pretty well. As new growth shoots out and heads up I just move the ornament out a little further and she grows sideways instead of up. I also have my lights around the sides of her instead of above. That way I hope she heads for the light and I prod her along with the ornaments as well.judy-8-23-10-3.jpg.
It has been 6 Days since watering Judy and I think I will water her when she wakes up this evening. Her cycle is Wake up at 20:00 HRS till lights out at 14:00 HRS. That way her heat load (lighting) is off during the hottest part of the day

The Judettes are doing well too. Judette 1 is growing like a weed. judy-8-23-10-1.jpgThis is 13 days from sprouting through the soil.
Judette 2 is 10 days old and doing pretty good as well. judy-8-23-10-2.jpg I intend to go for flowering once Judette 2 is 35 days old.
:hug:I would love to have 3 ladies in bloom and ready for the Vape by Thanksgiving.

If this works out I intend to pull a clone about a week or so from harvest and try again...

Again I am filled with gratitude for all the help and suggestions I have received from the many stoners who frequent this forum.

So have fun storming the castle boys.

Well Judy still feels damp to the touch about an inch down.:-| Gonna hold off watering a bit longer. I am known for the ability to kill  anything that grows and usually with kindness. I'm doing my best to have that label removed.

Judette 2 was dry to the touch and down over an inch. filled her drip pan and let her wick it up. Judette 1 is still damp to the touch so no H2O fo her.

:hump: Me.
Had a Vape load a few ago and :eyesmoke: and I cant believe the drivel I just typed.
Good bongsmilie hit...

Gonna go out and howl at the full moon:twisted::mrgreen::shock:

Nothing special to report today. Judy and the Judettes are doing well. No sign of the borg but I guess that just means it's time for more prophylactic treatment.
Better safe than sorry:shock:

The Judettes are 15 and 12 days old so far and Judy as a clone Has lived here 26 days but I understand momma was starting to bud right after Judy came home to me.
Judette 1 will get topped in 5 days and she gets to start training as well.
Judette 2 will grow unimpeded as a control of sorts.
I switched my training method a bit.
I now use galvanized wire cut into candy cane shapes and stake into the soil and hook the branches down to how I want them to go. Judy is getting wide. In 23 days I plan to go 12/12 on all the girls.
I considered cloning but I failed so miserably trying on my first grow with 4 attempts that I am afraid of wasting what could end up as good bud again.
Just gonna be happy for now that I actually have my girls alive and reasonably healthy.
So here are the latest pics.

Peace and mellow buzz to all.:blsmoke:

rombomb, already did.
Thanks.

Well I just made a new better activated carbon scrubber from the plans here https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/101248-best-diy-ez-walmart-carbon.html :bigjoint:and I gotta say it works great. My first one was less than stellar as I was noticing a bit O scent in the garage and must keep my stealth on at least till November when I expect smoke to be legal:mrgreen: here in CA.:leaf: One thing though wallyworld no longer carries the cups. Had to go to Office Max to find them but it was worth the search. I added one touch to it by wrapping it in a sheet of activated carbon filter media for a honeywell air cleaner that I had (of course) laying around here.
Judy 8-27-10-1.jpgJudy 8-27-10-2.jpgHere are a couple of shots of Judy's and the Judettes home. The new scrubber is up top center and I added a sample electrostatic air filter covering the air intake to assure that no more bugs can get in that way. I also relocated the large black fan to blow up through my cooling coil and that really helps take the heat down on those 100 degree days. Not had judy over 87 since I adjusted that.
Judy 8-27-10-3.jpgI topped Judette 1 today. I know she only has 5 sets of fan leaves but I think I can do some radical training in the next 3 weeks before she (I hope) goes to 12/12. As I said before Judette 2 will be going au natural as a control. These being my first successful (so far) seedlings I thought I might throw the dice and see what happens.
The rest of the pics are Judy. I released her lowest limbs and they are nearly as high as her topmost branches. Quite a bush :-o she has there...

Thats it for tonight. Gotta work in the AM. Being self employed sometimes has it's down side but I don't gotta take no ones shit and never have a boss on my ass so I guess Life aint too awful bad after all. :joint:

:peace: to all and may all your tokes be mellow on your lungs and twist yer head off for hours.
