i have 24 CFls on alot of plants, but as they get bigger, i cant cover the tops anymore with cfls... can i just put one huge 1000watt HPS over them all with a superspreader?

will it be too intense and if i can how far shuld i put them?

no way i can cover all these girls with cfls... youd need 64 of them!

Yes go for the HPS and here is a rough guide to HPS light hanging heights.
I use an HPS straight from seed to harvest (dual spectrum growlux sunmaster). Exellent for rapid growth and no need for any lamp changes.

Short answer : yes

more detailed answer : You will want to place the 1000w HID at the best level usually depends on the size of the plants. The person above me with the chart is spot on (SIR SMOKER, TY). Follow that chart and you will not be disappointed. HOWEVER, if vegging with a HPS be ready for some STEM ELONGATION. The plants will grow longer stems under the HPS. This is due to the spectrum of the HPS light. It is not a bad thing and it doesn't effect the harvest weight but it will make for plants that fall over easier with heavy buds so be ready to either LST or support them while they grow. Best of luck to you.

Peace and positive energy to you

My HPS keeps my plants small and bushy as i get the light as close as my plants as possible. I also start vegging for the first 2 weeks on a 24/0 photoperiod to keep them small and bushy and if you then switch to 18/6 thats when they will stretch as the plants stretch during your dark period looking for that light. If you vegg on 24/0 the plants wont stretch and will keep small and bushy with plenty more nodes. I do my first 2 weeks on 24/0 then switch to 18/6 to get some height on them and when they are around 12" tall i start my 12/12 until the end. I use a 400w (bulb shown below) and this plant was ready in 92 days from seed packet to harvest growing the way i just explained.

holy shit sir smoker! thanks for th advice! and gr8 pics. righteous bud!
Anytime friend.
(best of luck)

If you have the money buy a light track. It will move the light back and forth slowly.
With the way you see my grow space that small fan blowing on my lamp moves it around so its kind of a light mover but used for a small space as the grower wont be able to fit a light roller/mover in that small space as its already stretched for light space. Rotating pots and switching places with the pots every 2 days is also a good tip for a small space to get light to all different parts of the plants.

Nice looking plants you have there. are you using a conversion bulb? If you are then they are modified HPS lights which have more of a blue spectrum which reduces stem elongation.

"All HP sodium lamps will grow cannabis. Even though they are brighter, the spectrum contains little blue and more yellow/orange. Lack of color balance makes plants stretch between internodes, but does not diminish overall harvest."

That was a quote from the Marijuana Horticulture Medical Grower's Bible by Jorge Cervantes. Again those are some beautiful females. Have they been harvested already? Bet it was great smoke.

You could look into a MH conversion bulb that works on a HPS ballast. I had the EYE hortilux hps and I just got a coversion bulb for my current grow and I can tell the difference in veg for sure. Shorter internode spacing and bushy.

Hears some plants started and vegged under 1000 watt hps...
The plants were plast outdoors...

The plants all grew nice and thick, an I was able to place them outdoors with out having to acclimate them much.

They were grown on a 17 on 7 off light schedule, in 1 gallon nursery baskets...

Dual spectrum ....otherwise Known as , conversion bulbs = little to no stem elongation. I might have to find a 600w version if one even exists
Actually that's not true, a conversion bulb is a full on MH that runs on a HPS ballast or a HPS that runs on a MH ballast. A dual spectrum bulb has both MH and HPS arcs in one bulb. And yes they make a 600w MH conversion that runs on a HPS, that's what I have. You have to switch the bulbs when you bloom.

One bulb does the whole grow from seed to harvest.
