Cloning and me.

A couple things about cloning..

1.) Can you grow a plant, let it get roughly 6-7 inches tall and then clip it for cloning? or does it need to be more mature?

2.) I recently tried 2 clones /w root tech cloning gel and rockwool + homemade humidity dome, since they didn't matter to me, after 5 days I pulled both out of the rockwool to see if they had started rooting even a little bit.. NOTHING. Just droopy cuttings. Only thing that happened was towards the top of the cutting the stem had turned purple.

I'm just not really sure what i'm doing wrong here.. I'm currently in the middle of flowering so i cannot start new plants, however i will try again afterwards.

Any insight or ideas would help please.. I'm possibly thinking of getting a heated mat for underneath. Other than that i'm clueless.

I don't think 5 days is enough, I had a cutting in rockwool with clonex for 10 days and it just barely had some roots to it.
As long as it doesn't die I'd say let it simmer for at least a week or two.

I don't think you can tell from height alone. What you want is when one of the pieces you're going to take as a cutting has multiple nodes on the single branch. I've read that at least 3 nodes is good. (Not the whole plant but the cutting itself)

Clones can take 2 weeks and longer to root out. Patience. I'd advice a small heated propagator, not essential, but makes things easier and helps.

Agreed. Make sure your mother plant is at least 8 weeks old (I've found that clones taken from mature plants root better). If using a heat mat make sure it doesn't get too hot and fry your clones. I usually stack a couple of towels on top of mine (I learned the hard way). Best of luck.:weed:

i waterlog the entire tray and grooves so that the mat is saturated and the rockwool can leach off it to a degree, means that the dome is always real nice and humid :)
