2x4x5 tent. 600 watt cooltube??

i just made an impulse buy on a 600 watt cooltube. I'm curious about it being overkill. I know it's alot of light for a small area,
if it were you how would you set it up?? I have the hopes of using a 6 inch hydrofarm for intake and a duct booster for exhaust?? am i on the right track here?? how many plants would you use??
this is the first hid i've ever worked with. any advice is reputable ... help from experienced grower would be appreciated tooo.. I know i'm asking alot. but i'm ready to go balls deep.:hump:
peace brothers and sisters..

How many plants you grow is going to depend on the size of containers and the method of growing. You can probably get 4-8 plants in there comfortably doing a soil grow. You will also have to figure out when to switch to 12/12 so you don'y run out of height for the plants and light. Happy camping in your tent.......

well that's what i'm debating ... i've been able to control my plants to about 2 feet off the ground using lst. which gives me 3 feet left of height. Any suggestions on how you would vent it... I have my own idea but like i said i'm way new to hids. I would either like to have 3 to 4 going but once lst'd they may start crowding. Either that or just use a SOG method.
What i'd love to do is just buy another tent and Scrog two plant's per tent. decisions .... if you check in my sig you can see the strains i'm working with .. if you read in the beginning i wanted to start off with a 6 inch 400 cfm inline. and a duct booster probably??? i'd like to hear what some others would do in my situation.

Just remember to vent the hot air from the light outside your main room and allow for cool air from the main room to enter the cab easily. The biggest issue people run into when cooling a high output light in a cab is they vent the light to the main room and not outside. So it causes a lot of heat issues. I have a 400 now and will be upgrading to a 600 also in my 2x4x6.5 cab. Good luck and i think you will be fine.

Duct boosters don't move much air. I started out with one for an exhaust and it was pretty pointless. What I have done is a chain with my exhaust fan. First it pulls in the warmer air from near the ceiling, then it pulls that air through the light and finally pushes out through the exhaust to another room. This works well and creates enough vacuum to pull in colder air passively near the floor. Some people also hook up a carbon filter to the system, but that will lower the CFM of the fan. I have a stand alone carbon scrubber that takes care of that.

i don't plan on using a scrubber at first. all i know is i have a small spot and need to figure the best way to cool the light.u couldnt i only exhaust out to the room .. outside temps are around 75. Like i was saying i've grown with fluros all this time so venting is new to me. I'd imagine i'm running this fan while lights are on constantly correct??? another words straight across the center. open duct at the end of the tent ..so it would be 8 inch ductbooster>cooltube bulb end.>bulb socket> 6 inch inline> exhausting the bulb to the open duct ?? please keep in mind i have no clue. I also plan on keeping the tent open for most of the time as i have my last few grows

My exhaust runs all the time. Working backwards from the blower motor - Exhaust duct going out of the room, Blower motor, exhaust duct from light, Intake duct for the light near the ceiling. I have been told that it is more efficient to pull the air than to push it.

I'm running 600w super lumens with a Lumatek digital ballast + 6" inline fan w/435cfm + cool tube in the exact same grow space. As long as your ambient temperatures are reasonable, you will have no issues.

Good luck

everyone has been a great help so far .. thank you ... if anyone wants to recommend a cheap way to cool ... meaning without having to spring for a 200 dollar fan i'd love to hear some suggestions. I have a light distance chart but how in a 5 foot space ... keep in mind say 12 inch pots .... so now we have 4 feet of space ..... how big would you let the plants get before inducing the in such a small area. so with the cooltube in place i'm imagining that i have 3 feet of space left. GONNA BE TIGHT!!

ok so let me bump this up for a moment.
I have an idea that i need an opinion on. To cool the 600 in question. I was planning on buying a 6 inch 435 cfm fan. now i need an intake. would i wanna go with two??? for such a small space. on in and one out?? or is that overkill? or i could do in with a duct booster and out with the 6 inch.
another thing.
at the moment i don't have plans on using a carbon scubber or filter. Is this acceptable???
one other question. I understand i need to cool the tube. as circulation outside of the tube. are non-duct fans acceptable for airflow. or would i want to add more intake fans for the bottom of the tent.
please forgive my ignorance in this situation but .... ventilation and hid's are all new to me. I feel like i went too big with the 600 so as i stated before ...i'd love to have an opinion on how you'd set it up on a tight budget.

The vent thing is new to me as well, I just built my stealth wardrobe with a 400hps cooltube and i used a 350cfm fan I got for 99 bucks I can hold my hand on the glass comfortably for ever if i needed to, that is what you really want. I think that a 435cfm fan cooling a 600 will do well with one intake and one exhaust, but if you want really great results put a small intake fan(let's say 150cfm) inside(bottom of tent like you mentioned) as well and have another exhaust for that fan venting through the top. Then you can do what I did and build your own carbon filter, if you need it, and attach it to that secondary exhaust, not the exhaust from the cool tube. that air won't reek hard like the other air will. This is my first delve into indoor growing so I recently went through what you are going through now.

so just so i'm clear .... two 435 cfms on the tube to keep it cool ... or would one and a duct booster work?

You shouldn't need more than one 6" inline fan with 400+ cfm for as high as 600w, at least I don't with mine

Exactly, 435 cfm is plenty for the one light. Fresh air in is another matter depending on how you are going to intake through the light.

nice ... that helps my costs greatly .... but would it be overkill to to have a duct booster for intake on the tube and the 6 inch inline as the exhaust. is this just useless .... i want to be able to put this bitch as close to my plants as i can.
for my intake on the actual tent .. i would imagine i'll just us duct boosters to move air outside of the tube. any thoughts on this?

If you really want to go with a duct booster use it to blow fresh air into the grow area, the inline fan will do fine on it's own
