can you use tin foil instead of mylar?

Depends what lights you are using. I would think that CFLs wouldn't have that problem. I won't do it with a 400w HPS.

you can use tin foil but it's the last thing i would use. i took my mylar down and painted the walls flat white, a lot easier to take care of.

You can use foil, but most use Mylar.

It is an old wives tail that tin foil and a light will burn plants.

Perhaps outside in full sun.

i'm not on a budget, mylar is a pain in the ass to hang. the flat white paint is easy to apply and easier to clean.

yellow paint is more reflective than tin foil, go for flat white or better yet titanium white paint for cheapness and ease and mylar or foylon for something more expensive but slighty more reflective
