i would say it is far to late to start any trimming, im against it anyway, if you have to do any trimming do it in veg and give it a week or two to recover, i aint no expert though

If the lower branches are getting enough light then you don't really need to trim. But if they're not, then you should get rid of the bottom branches. They will only yield at best popcorn buds. And yes by trimming the top buds will get bigger. Trimming the bottom branches also make watering a breeze.

my own personal opion is to never trim a leaf unless it is ready to fall off. god has made it so each plant grows so many leafs for the god of the plant why try to alter what god has attended. i use lst and when ever there is a leaf in the way of another i just pull it to the side and tie it back i do this around the plant to make sure three are no dark spots on the plant. as for the ottom shoots that deem worth of a pop corn nug i just clone them. and flower them in a few weeks and then they no longer give pop corn nugs. worth the little time it takes

Would be different if the lower buds werent getting any light and were smothered by other plants, but in this case the lower buds arent much smaller than the top, leave it be is my opinion.

i dont think cloning is an option 5 weeks into flower..
Plant is pretty small anyway.
thanks? not :)

Are you growing outdoors or indoors?

I agree with what people were saying about light and popcorn buds... and ease of watering.

I'm growing an OG Kush plant on my balcony and it has been flowering. However, I've been trimming the new growth on the top in order to increase the size of the buds on the middle and sides. We'll see how that goes.

My previous outdoors plants were left untouched/untrimmed. It produced some airy lower buds that took a long time to trim at harvest and the buds weren't very solid or large. So, I have been trimming some of the lower leaves lately.
