Looking for tent advice in regards to lights, hoods, and fans.

Currently interested in upgrading a tent set up from using a standard reflecting hood (no cooling, no glass) to either a DIY CoolTube or similar cooling. I am using a 400W ballast in a 2' (D) x 5' (W) x 5' (H) tent. The tent is located on the top floor in a closet of about 10' (L) x 5' (W).

I would like to exhaust the air into the attic rather than outside. I would be okay spending the extra cast to get an inline fan, similar to a Vortex or other brand.

I am simply trying to address any issues that may arise before I drop some cash on upgrading.

Stay away from inline fans, they are generally weak, fragile, and not worthy for us. A good 4" or 6" Vortex will be plenty for your setup. Exhausting air into the attic is excellent. Check my grow room in the sig for a vortex and can filter installation, you would be able to control all of your odor issues by doing this and running that then right to the attic. Keep filter inside the tent hanging from the top. It goes like this: can filter --> vortex --> reflector --> attic

My other suggestion if you are upgrading is to ditch the 400w crap and get something that isnt so wuss. :)

good luck!

I dont see any problems with your setup, or inline fans.

You could go with a cooltube, but theyre kinda tricky.

I'd recommend a nice sealed hood with vents and sealed glass.

Check out Sun Sytems' Super Sun Reflector kit. Around $100, and will give you good light coverage.

This kid above me is pretty critical, i see no problems with a 400w in your sq footage. (50w per sq ft = 500w for your area)

I guess my biggest question is how many CFM do I need to suck out the air and displace it into the attic? Odor isn't a terribly big issue to be honest because of how small the tent is, and, the tent is inside of a closet which is on the second floor of a large bedroom (and the bedroom IS the entire second floor).

Could I get away with those HVAC inline fans, or, should I stick with a Vortex-style inline fan (maybe a 4").

In line fans are some of the most popular fans to use for cannabis growing. You must mean axial fans. Those can be shit depending on your grow area but they work wonders for me.

To better clarify, a fan that has a smaller blade diameter than the ducting you are using. e.g., a 5" fan that's inside of duct work for a 6" duct. Those suck! :) They are little computer fans that someone stuffed in a metal housing. :(

Now a fan that is like a 750cfm vortex fan, those are good. :) :) :)

With his setup, I dont think he needs more than 300 cfm for his tent.

It all depends on the temperature of the air your moving in. Do remember too that fresh air = more co2 that your plants can absorb, so more generally = better until the plants fall over from 'wind stress' ;-)

Yep...fresh cool air really works wonders, except if it's too cold.

You dont need anything fancy like a Vortex...Those are way over-priced, Unless you're a spoiled rich girl...
