I think G-13 started as an afghan then through hybridizing by the us government they produced G-13
30% THC if I remember right.

G-13 and the government is entirely debatable. I don't know for a fact where it all started but it's great pot. True, it is of Afghan origin. You can totally tell from the leaves alone, among other obvious traits. I don't know about straight 30% THC but it's a damn strong smoke when in the right hands.

I can't agree with you anymore. Like solo, I also was a trim happy grower when I began. It took me years to understand that you're only hurting yourself, well the plant. The more fan leaves you have, the better, and as you said, if the fan leaves get in the way, well, they are long, push the fuckers under or out of the way and let the thing keep growing!!! It's stupid logic if you think, oh I am going to cut these fans leaves so the lower fan leaves can grow out. With that logic, you're only going to keep stunting the plants growth, and you'll be trimming non-stop until harvest. Just let them grow out, push them to the side or under, don't fucking cut them, it's stupid, straight up. EVERY SINGLE GROWER I KNOW has been trim happy when they started, but truth is, it will take you years to learn exactly wihch leaves need to be trimmed and which don't. As Howzer said, you only cut the ones touching your substrate, or the ones dying/injured/ready to go. The rest, you let grow, as they should be! Trust us, you'll see a significant increase in bud size and quality, as well as over-all plant health and satisfaction! It's an amazing things

LEAF THE LEAVES ALONE! LEAF THEM BE!
Well thanks for the input Noobmeister. Glad to have you along.

Yea those hydro store guys are there to make money, not really inform you. He sold you another bulb, that's all there was to it lol. At least you got a full veg out of the MH before it quit on you, eh? I imagine most any 430w HPS would work. I was stoked to hear that the 430 would run with the super lumens switch and got the bulb for next round when I found out. I grabbed an Eye Hortilux, but a Philips Son Agro would be my next choice after that. In case you wanted to know. And so far so good with the switch bumped. It's stayed brighter than usual and everything is running just fine still. I just turned my blower up a smidge to compensate for the little bit of extra heat. The ballast isn't running hotter than usual either. I want to do more research on it, but I read a blip about certain enhanced spectrum bulbs won't fire in newer E-Ballasts. Something about the Amps needed for firing the bulb being rated lower than what the ballasts' output is for start up.IDK I'm still not 100% and I am going to figure it out before I waste this $110 bulb next round. I'll let you know what I find out.
Luckily my MH didn't blow...But thanx to your tip..I'll make sure not to use the super lumen switch while using the MH's.I did take a quick look at the 430W Hortilux and Son Argo bulbs. Let me know if you use either and how they worked.I might end up getting one in the future.

Peace

The Eye Hortilux is a great bulb. I've used them many a time in magnetic ballasts. I still haven't been able to find any concrete information that confirms/denies what I read about adjusted spectrum bulbs in E-Ballasts though.

Yeah i think I might splurge and grab a hortilux for next grow. See what all the fuss is about :D
The difference really counts for grows like what you or I have. Trying to pump as much weight as you can from a 2x4x5ft space becomes a challenge and the little things always end up mattering.

I'm using a 400W Eye Hortilux right now and it seems to be working great.Of course I have nothing to compare it to,considering this is my first grow.My space is limited also.

It seems to be doing it's job nicely:) I just have a standard GE bulb right now. The 430w Eye is waiting for next round :D. I'm actually doing a bit of moving around and adding things. I'll be doubling the width of that cabinet after these plants are out and putting a 600w on the new side. Two flowering chambers, 1,000 watts. Er, 1,030 watts. Lots of new goodies OTW :D I'm in the process of doing some major upgrades to my mother room and figuring out a new area for a veg/clone box I put together last night as well. Things have been in some-what disarray lately and I'm finally starting to put it all together just recently. There will be lots of pictures to look at in a few weeks.

Sounds awesome man; I cant wait to move into a bigger home where I can have a play room all to myself. My wife wont let me grow anywhere other than my closet for now, so Im stuck with what i got.

I wonder if you run the 430W bulb using the SuperLumen feature on my lumatek if it would burn the bulb out quicker?

Not at all, actually a page back I was actually talking about that. The Super Lumens switch will sufficiently run a 430w lamp. You can burn out a standard 400w bulb much faster, but the extra "boost" is just enough to operate 430 watts optimally I guess. And sorry to hear about the spacial issues(AKA wife). My ol' lady wasn't too keen on the thing either until she understood the ins and outs of the whole operation. I suppose they'll get used to it or they won't. Right now this cabinet is in half of the office closet and the expansion is going to take up the rest of it. The space I'm using for my mothers is getting a nice face-lift and some cool new gear. I put together a little tent for vegging clones, and it has a compartment on top for freshly cut un-rooted clones as well. A couple weeks after this round is over I'll have hit the ground running with a nice perpetual thing going on.

Sounds awesome, cant wait for some pics of the new setup
The cabinet extension is a few weeks away yet(waiting until after harvest, less complications) and I still have to figure out what I'm going to do with everything else. I'm floating around a bunch of ideas. Some great, some too expensive and far-fetched. I'll probably ask for suggestions on something at some point and post a few stray pics. The disarray that everything's in makes me not want to take any photos JUST yet. I figure I'll wait until I've got everything dialed in and unleash it all on one thread when it's ready :D. More exciting that way.
