Put them by your water heater in the dark best place imo that what do good results do not put them under lights yet they don't like it made that mistake before keep them in the space with the water heater till you see the first true leaves

The top of a refrigerator is another popular warm place.

Did you put the $10 seeds directly in the 25 cent Jiffy Pellet?? Or are you doing the paper towel thing, and not wasting a 25 cent jiffy pellet on a $10 seed that doesn't germinate???

I am obviously a plant it in the pellet, cube or soil guy.... I still dont understand the benefit of disturbing a seedling, tiny root hairs etc after the fact to put it in a planting medium and save 25 cents.

you have lost me. are you saying you should use a jiffy or not? i will be using the pellets but once i have put the seed in do they need to be in a box or anything or just in a warm place. i will put them in my boiler room but do i need 1 of those little domes.

yes, he is saying use the jiffy. DO NOT germ them in paper towels then move them to jiffy. put the seed in the jiffy, keep it warm and keep it moist, in a few days the love will come!

YES. And put it in the Jiffy from the start. Dont mess with it, or transplant it till you see the roots growing out the side of the pellet.

Sorry about the sarcasm about paper towels. I just dont understand the benefit to disturbing seedlings.

also DO NOT bury the seeds deep inside the pellet.... sometimes they get 'lost' trying to grow up and exhaust all there energy trying to get out of the soil.. i wasted a few seeds like that, seeds i had germ'd and transplanted into the pellet, would grow and grow and grow and then die without ever breaking the soil... ive dissectec a few pellets that happened toto see what was going on and it looked like the seedling just couldnt get enough purchase to poke through the surface and instead grew around in circles trying to find a way out.

when i poke the seed in, only about 5 mil in from top, should i cover it over with a little soil as i can slighty see the top of the seed.

Be really careful about moisture. Jiffy pellets tend to dry out rather fast, and get rock hard when they do. If left soaking in water they can also lead to rotted seeds. I stopped using them a while back because they were far too hard to keep properly moist.

iin my honest opion i love to soak the jiffy pellets the day before with warm water and allow them to sit over night to room temps. jiffy pellets are made with peat moss that is a natural water filter. you dont need to use distilled or anything other than tap. if you check the ph of the water after it goes through a pellet it will be less than 6. so it is great to use. then i just pop my seeds in and let them go on a window sill. in the doom you get with the pellets. the window sill will warm them up. you are putting them in dark space when you cover them with dirt. so just sit them in the window and narue will do the rest. the doom keeps the pellets from drying out

In a propogator with a humidity dome and dont have the jiffys to wet. Just nice and moist. I use jiffys all the time with 100% germ rate.
Keep them in the dark until the seeds sprout at 74* and around 80% humidity for quick results.

thanks for your answers. should i push the seed in a certain way. which end does the root come out of?
You want to put the poined end of the seed downwards. I have had the problem of the taproot growing upwards through the top layer of soil due to just dropping the seeds in the holes. If you look at a seed you will see is not totaly round its kind of baloon shaped. So just poke a small hole in the jiffy 5-7mm deep and drop the seed in with the pointed end down. Dont pay attention to the sexing of the seeds quoted i am sceptical of this and only posted it as to show the seeds shape.
(hope that makes sense).

You can put them in the boiler room and to keep the pellets moist use a spray bottle mine usually need to be sprayed everyday just pray all around the pellet and a bit on top should keep moisture fine but make sure to check them
