And is it ok to chop with amber hairs still sticking out or do they have to wither away and die first?....

Wait at least 2 more weeks, perhaps more. The plant packs on the most weight the last few weeks. No such thing as "over ripe" or "too Late". Use a small microscope to check trichome ripeness.

Yeah the picture above is a good representation of when to cut but it would also be a good idea to get a microscope and check the trichomes. Once they have a good balance of amber in them (30-50%) its time to harvest. (Remember smoky trichomes= clear energetic high, and amber=couch lock more intense) The pistils are good indicator of when to harvest but in my opinion trichomes are better. :bigjoint:

a plant can easily become over ripe... there is no reason why it wouldn't. you really have only a week of peak ripeness, using a microscope is the best method, but if you have at least 1/3 white hairs and 1/3 amber trichs it's time to chop

There is a too late can lose potency if you wait to long I'd have to agree with the 1/3 hairs and tricomes from what I've read its a good indication of time to chop
