grow box design help.

hello all, i have got my seeds germin so im trying to get my cupboard sorted today and need some help. i have a 1.5ftx3.5ftx5ft cupboard in which im hoping to grow 3 northern lights as i hear they dont smell so much. smell is realy the only issue for me, hopefully i can confine it to my room. i am using a 250 watt hps but have no idea what to do about fans and possibly a carbon filter. please can someone tell me what fans i should use for this space, how many what size and what sort of carbon filter would i need to control the smell. there is a hydro shop by me so i can get most gear but dont want to be askin to much in the shop. i have seen many fan and filter kits but what size do i need for this space. do i need one of these cool tubes or is it pointless on a 250watt? basicaly i dont know what to buy so any help would be great, thanks, aaron

well i'm no expert but done a couple grows on ur scale mate

I dont use a carbon filter never have but i would recomend a 3"/4" filter and just a small desk top oscillating fan will do for circulation

reckon a hi power inline 4 inch with carbon filter should be fine, but you may want to future proof it and use a hi power 5 inch for when you get a bigger light.......

if i mount a bathroom extractor fan to the wall and attach a small odour sock, with duct clips, would this be enough, im just thinking that ducting will take up to much space. ill also have a less powerful fan sucking air into the cupboard, and a desk fan inside to circulate and cool plants.

i started under a bed with 1x 250 envirolite and a fan,i moved to a cupboard and got another light and an extractor fan, then another extractor fan,then the place started to stink so i used diy methods to try and stop smell,then summer came and it was over heating, then i got sensible and got a proper inline with filter , job done .i certainly wouldnt be using a bathroom extractor with hps, just spend a little extra from the start and you will be rewarded.

i was hoping not to have ducting. i have been looking at the odour socs and was wondering if you could attach it straight to a fan so that the out side of the cupboard just had the fan on the ouside, no ducting atall. the cupboard is right next to a window so it would pretty much flow straight out.

cant afford a tent right now, why are they better than making your own box.i know they are bigger but are there any real advantages.smell?

a 250 watter ina small space is going to make a good amount of heat...least have 1-2 fans pulling air out of the grow area and one inside to circulate the air.and carbon filters can sometimes slow or almost block airflow if you dont have a powerful fan.and you could always use ona blocks or gel to cover the smell instead of a carbon filter....will be cheaper in the long run that way too

thanks dj, have u used the ona products, i was thinking of just getting a shit load of them instead but will they cover the smell as much as the carbon filter would. my seeds are only just sprouting, do you have any idea when the smell will come. they are northern lights if that helps. if i knew they wouldnt semll till flowering i could buy a good fan and filter out of next months pay but if they are going to smell soonthen i need to get this sorted.

well ive had plants start getting skunky at about a month old...depends on the strain.and ona blocks do work well...and their are cheaper versions of it at home depot or lowes thats the same shit..jsut look in the cleaners section.but they really start getting a strong smell when its flowering and right before harvest..so your good for a few weeks still
