Advice On Inline Fan & Carbon Filter Set Up Please....

So I am completly new to growing, set up my tent and everything yesterday.

Thing is I have no idea how to set up the filter and fan together?! Its first time I seen carbon filter lol.

So I have hung the carbon filter horizontaly at top of my grow tent near the bak, and whats confusing me is which side of the fan I put in?

Do I put the blade side:

vents-fan-tt.jpg

Into the carbon filter or the other side? I was thinking it was the blade side, but Im just paranoid dont want to do anything wrong.

Stupid question probably but please help!

Oh and would I need any other sort of fan? I was going to get two small oscilating fans, but would I need any other type of fans for air movement etc or is that enough? Growing in a small secret jardin grow tent.

Many thanks!

Hello,

For the side, there one side only that should fit the carbon filter which is the left side on the picture. You will need 1-2 oscilating fans.

You will need a fan to bring air in the tent since you re carbon filter and the fan with it will push air out of the tent. You always need a new refill of fresh air for co2.

If you are using a small grow tent, a small 4inch or 6inch vortex fan (175-450cfm) would do the job to bring air in you re tent.

Thanks very much, thats the side I was putting in was just making sure.

So i need another fan to bring air in, ok....

Would I put these on a timer or just allow them to run all the time?

Is this a stealthy grow?
If not why worry about smell.
I have Bubba Kush and Og Kush growing indoors and I tell you, after a day of work I can smell it outside, but im legal with 2 scripts in the house.
A simple setup I have seen used is a coffee CAN with both sides cut out and mesh screening attached to each end filled with normal charcoal and placed inline to the outgoing air flow. Nearly 100% odor was removed.

Since I am in UK, where you can arrested for a joint! I gues I have to be stealth yup.

I just want to make sure my enviroment is ideal for my plants... So will be investing in another fan to bring air in.

But will I have to leave them on all the time? Because Im sure they will need a rest at some point or not?

And any cheap methods of brigning more co2 into my tent? I dont really want to buy one of those big co2 tank tings.

Any advice is much apreciated.

i would suggest ; THERMOSTAT EL-500

Will start the fan when temperature go above what you set it up. Which make it run every 5-10min due to heat raising again after the fan do it job. (Never let me down) having good result since i use this.

You could always use one that you can make it run every "X" minutes but sometime you will find out temperature will drop too much so this is why i avoid them.

EDIT: You do not need co2 generator if you move air in and out you re tent. co2 generator are mostly used in Sealed room that cant use IN/OUT.

I leave my exhaust fan on most of the time. I have a large swamp cooler that I use for cooling AND Humidity adding. For it gets pretty dry in Northern Cali. When the humidity is up I turn the cooler off and let my WIND MACHINE exhaust fan suck air in throught the 2sq foot opening of the cooler and out a 2sqfoot opening leading out of the room. Constant air flow is neccessary, I agree that ALL electronic devices benifit from a rest period. I would have at least one fan running ALL THE TIME. Fans circulating air will keep hu8midity down, air fresh, this equals plants stay fresh. good luck, hope that helped

My issue is humidity, I am ALWAYS switching the water on and off to keep the humidity perfect. Sometimes work causes this to be quite impossible. Can you suggest a good humidistat that would work with a standard 110v fan?

Hey thanks both of you for your replies, really helped alot.

I think I will keep one fan running all the time tokingking, since it make sense to have some air for my plants.

And THERMOSTAT EL-500 looksreal good, If i find some extra moneys will have to invest in it. If not this grow definetly my next, permitting this one is succesful!

Gotta get another fan for bringing in air first.

Thanks alot for your help!

If you could give me method I could use to bring co2 into my tent? I dont want one of those co2 tank things seems like headache.

Someone once told me I can just spray carbonated water (like just sparkling or fizzy water) onto my plants every so often and this will give them some of the co2 they need. Is that true?

I too am interested in co2. I tried to put together a slow vineger/baking soda drip system with a shower head to mist the co2 over the buds. They claimed it worked, I never got it fully together, descided it wasnt worth the time.

Hey that sounds even more complicated than the co2 tank! I am sure there must be a easy yet effective method. I think the spraying carbonated water would work, well I hope it does as thats what I am planning to use....

@rs444 You do not need any co2 generator because if you add a new fan the air going in will have all the needed co2 this is why you need an inline fan! to avoid buying a co2 generator. Just be sure to have a timer like i told you to be sure the fan will work every 5 min or more or just do like tokingking said and make it work non stop (but will increase cost of electricity) and also will use you re fan more.

The co2 generator will be good for people who want a full sealed environment and have good control over it. (No IN, No OUT)

@TheTokingKing; If you have proper ventilation a simple Wal-Mart humidifier will do the job. Just be sure the room is sealed with proper ventilation and you re humidity % will always be around 50-70 depend on the amount you need. (the thing is you need to go fill it once a day which aint a big problem) clean it once a month to avoid mold or any residue in the tank.

If you are in bloom you do not need humidifier unless you re humidity is under 25-30% which shouldnt happen.

Lady, I dont think I was clear enough. I have a swamp cooler that I use for Fresh air/Humidity. My issue is while running my cooler to keep my grow room cool it uses water (swamp cooler) I have to continuously switch the water on or off or the room will shoot WAY up into 60-65% humidity. Or if I leave if off it will drop down to 15% within an hour or two. I need some sort of switch that is adjustable to kick that water pump on my cooler on and off so I dont have to. I know im lazy but enjoy the automatic growing. lol

The only thing I would consider is if its pure, any surgars might effect your buds in a reverse mannor, on yes that system was ciomplicated, I never finished it. l ol

Hello,

Never used a swamp cooler but i know a good timer for what you need, just need to be sure it work with you re system which i think it does but just be 200% sure;

Use one and they work really really really well!
