Fan Control: The CAP VSC-DNe - Check it out!

I just picked up this fan speed controller yesterday to control my S&P TD-150 6" inline fan, and I have to say this thing is freakin' sweet!

I am still trying to dial in the settings, but basically you set your max desired day and night temps, at which point your fan will be running 100% It throttles your fan down gradually until it turns it off when the temp drops below your max setting by 3, 5, or 7 degrees, selectable by a switch on the side.

I have it set so my cab is maintaining a steady 80 degrees, and the fan is way quieter and doing less work now. It also helps because when my lights kick on in the morning it used to draw cold air into my stuffy cab, giving the plants a little shock. Now the temp and humidity stay steady.

Anyway, I just thought I'd throw this out. Maybe it'll help someone looking for a venting solution.

$85. I have this fan:

http://www.hvacquick.com/products/residential/Bathroom-Ventilation/Remote-Fans-for-Bath/SP-TD-Series-Inline-Fans

and it says fully speed controllable, so I'm going with it. When the fan first turns on, the blades are barely moving and the motor kinda hums, but not too bad. And yes, it is just like a speed controller, but it turns the speed up and down depending on temperature and day/night phase. Just finished up my first round with it and I love it!
I did the same thing for 26 dollarsDSCF2317.jpg

Its a attic fan termostat. It would be used to control your attic exaust fan. But I got a replacement one and wired it in to a hot and a box with plugs. Now it turns my fans on at any temp i set it at. Works great!

The timer on the top plug has nothing to do with the temp controler. It is used for my light.

That thing is going to be loud as hell!

For almost the same price you can get a fan that is meant for a grow room.
Yea you could, with a lot less cfm. The only thing that might beat it besides the cfm part is a valuline. I think I could get a 435 for $75. The problem is the HF fan ships for $10.99 while the valuline ships for probably around $20. Im going to check it out real quick.

The only thing is the HF fan says "free air" so who knows how much it moves with ducting. Most inline fans are rates at a certain static pressure, which allows for some ductwork.

Do these really burn up fan motors? I have a ValueLine 6" Centrifugal Fan - 453 cfm

It hasn't hurt mine yet. My fan says "fully speed controllable" and I figure someone that knows a whole lot more than me about electronics made this thing. I figure CAP wouldn't make something that is going to burn up motors - too much liability.
