I dont know what it is tried everything one by one and couldnt get it to run at all. pretty pissed off donno what to do.. is the motherboard completely gone?
i dont know how to reset the cmos and dont really wanna start messing around with it incase i mess somthing up and the computer isnt baught my mate built it for me about 3 years ago.Kind of hard to explain, but don't pull the motherboard. Inside you will find wires going from the switch to the motherboard, one should be labeled pwr. Unplug the power and hold down the power button for 10 seconds or so. Leave it unplugged. Disconnect the wires from the power panel make sure you remember what wires went where. Now plug in the power, take a screwdriver (small) and short the pwr lead to one next to it for a couple seconds, see if it comes on. What I would normally do first would be to remove the battery for a minute after removing power and holding the power button down, this resets the cmos usually, also most boards have a reset jumper that you can reset it with. This is common with HP and Dell and other name brand pc's, they all use the same shitty boards basically.
I had a similar problem once and it was a fan. When the mother board senses a fan is not working it won't boot up. Especially if you have one that plugs right into the motherboard. What you can do is if you have a spare fan lying around that works, plug that into your motherboard and see if it fires up.
Another friend of mine had a similar problem where his motherboard was frying the fan. He did what I just suggested and the PC fired up but the MB quickly fried it as well. In his case the MB was the culprit and was frying the fan. He got another MB and fixed the problem.
Anyway I hope this helps a little and good luck
Peace.
how old is the mother board? what kind of processor do you have? i was thinking of building a computer and putting an asus in it.
pulling the battery for a minute should reset it, also what I said about removing the pwr lead and shorting with a screwdriver. You won't mess up anything if you follow what wrote to a t. You got to troubleshoot it somehow.i dont know how to reset the cmos and dont really wanna start messing around with it incase i mess somthing up and the computer isnt baught my mate built it for me about 3 years ago.
Don't play with settings in the bios next time when you don't know what you are doingI've had no post but after I pulled the battery it booted up.
That's extremely rare/non probable.maybe the cpu is fried.
ok ill explain a bit better i have my computer (the one witch isnt working) and my mates pc that he never uses i pulled my psu put it in his and it worked so i took his and put it in mine and it didnt work , there both 350 watt psu'sThe blinking sb pwr light sounds to me like fluctuating voltage from the power supply. I see you stated that you changed it out with a spare, but is it sufficient wattage for what you have? I'd test the spare PS and the old PS by only plugging in the motherboard/cpu/memory/vid card. See if it POST. If it does POST you have your culprit, if not your motherboard is probably bad. Also, are you positive your spare PSU is good? Is it a pull from an old system?
FYI SB PWR = Standby Power
To Dropastone, a dead fan will not make your computer not POST. The system will shutdown during bootup or at the desktop once the cpu hits a high enough temperature with no active cooling.
I don't know what to tell you about that. All I know Is I changed out a non working fan with one that worked and my PC fired right up. It was a dell computer and I know that some MB are setup that way if one of your cooling fans isn't working. What you are describing is the heat sink that cools the CPU and in that case you are 100% right. The blinking sb pwr light sounds to me like fluctuating voltage from the power supply.
