the corporate world is surpressing jobs because they want those tax breaks (7 billion dollars worth) that are not paid for. funny how republicans work, they scream financial responsibility... but then when they want more special interest money from the rich corporations........... financial responsibility goes out the window, and what do they do, hold back the tax breaks for the ones who need it. the middle class, and the working poor, and the ones that got laid off for no fault of their own that now cant even get unemployment INSURANCE!

I keep seeing these same corporations that arent hiring, recording great profits after laying off tons of workers...... what happened to taking care of your employees? Their focus is too much on their wallets and flling them up, to care about the tons of people who's lives they just fucked over....... to save their profits. SAVE OUR COUNTRY! SAVE OUR JOBS! SAVE OUR CITIZENS!

It's also funny that a lot of the things people in this country consider 'socialism' like state pensions or public health insurance actually came about as a reaction to real socialism. Otto von bismarck, who was the chancellor of germany at the end of the 19th century, was very much a conservative, but he understood that you're much more likely to become a communist or socialist if your 70 year old mother is destitute and your kid brother died from a preventable disease because your family couldn't afford the hospital bills. Today, if he were in america, he would be labelled a RINO...

The main objective of any Corporation is to Make a profit. Without profit there is no corporation. Sure they could rehire all those people, only to go bankrupt a few months later. Then where would we be? I have never seen or worked for a company that didn't have profit as its number 1 goal. Retention of employees is NEVER mentioned.

Explain to me how it's dumb. It makes perfect sense to me. Maybe I'm dumb. Maybe it takes a dumb person to decipher a dumb comment, kinda like speaking the same language, ya know? What are the constituent parts of a society? Individuals! So in essence we are talking about individuals here. I think it's important to understand the mindset of the wealthy, just as it is important to understand the mindset of the poor. Some people don't want to go to college. That's their choice but we all know that college graduates typically earn a good deal more than their under educated counterparts. Are we to feel sorry for a person who makes a conscious choice to not get an education? Are we to pity the man who chooses a blue collar job over a white collar one. Of course the statement is a very simplistic and broad one but it highlights some important points. We live in a free society (kind of, but that's for another debate). There are prices to pay for that freedom we enjoy. People get to choose. Our choices mold and shape our lives. I chose to join the military and the fire service. As a result I have old injuries and aches and pains which have left me pretty much disabled. I'm fortyish and I can't do the things that most people my age take for granted (and I used to be one physically fit mofo). Do I blame the military or the fire dept. for my CHOICES? No. Not many countries offer the kind of opportunities that the U.S. offers. As difficult as obtaining wealth may be, especially in our current crisis, it's still very possible to make something of nothing in this country. Becoming wealthy shouldn't be easy. If it were everyone would be weatlhy and that would then raise the bar meaning their wealth wouldn't be considered wealth any more. We could spend days debating this and I realize that we have our problems and the playing field is becoming more and more out of whack. :joint:

What is your solution to this problem abe?:confused:

Doc, it's not about blaming anyone for their choices. The fact is that real income for the middle class has stagnated while healthcare and higher education have gotten more expensive over the past decade. Meanwhile we cut taxes on the wealthiest (increasing the deficit and debt) and saw their piece of the pie grow.

Are you saying this is happening because those 1% happen to be very smart and the other 99% are dolts...? Or is it because we've spent the past 30 years skewing everything in favor of the wealthiest while turning our backs on everyone else? This isn't about class warfare or begrudging anyone their wealth or success. It's about acknowledging that income inequality is a problem in the long-run...

If you're a simpleton like jeff f, then you will seek simple solutions or better yet someone to blame (barney frank, gays, welfare moms or whatever they're talking about on am radio). The reality is that a lot of things have to be done to level the playing field and give people in the middle a fairer shake. Healthcare, college loans, financial reform and letting the tax cuts expire for the top bracket are steps in the right direction. It took a while for things to get this fucked up, it will take a while to fix.

I think my resume speaks for itself as to whether or not I'm a simpleton. I'm with you on leveling the playing field. We just don't seem to agree how that should happen. I don't believe some of the things being done will help the middle class. They will benefit the hell out of the poor. Won't affect the wealthy much. The middle class has not and probably will not benefit much from healthcare reform or stimulus. The blowback from healthcare reform is already beginning because my parents' health insurance will go up by around 30% at the beginning of 2011. Thanks Obama!:clap:

as if insurance rates didn't already double in the previous decade.

yet for you, it is all obama's fault, not the companies who actually raised the rates.

You know why Healthcare and College have gotten so expensive? Because government subsidizes them. If it weren't for Government loans that anyone can qualify for School would not be so damned expensive and Medicare and Medicaid have absolutely screwed up healthcare for good. And you want more of this madness.
