What are these things?

I had gnats, but I was able to kill them off after a few pythium bombs and a hot shot pest strip.

But these things won't die. Little white/clear bugs that fall out of the bud as I am trimming it. They hop away really fast, but I was able to squish this one. The picture is about 50x magnified.

Are they thrips? I can't identify them, but nothing I have tried kills them. What can I do?

so how do we kill em? the foggers have done nothing. i have had 2 hot shot pest strips in there for a couple weeks and nothing (thought those killed everything?). dunno what to do?

i don't know! i bought some neem oil cause i thought it was powdery mold at first, but I've been spraying the leaves with a neem/dish soap mix with water every night. Also I hear strong ventilation is good like keep the fans on the area with the bugs and they will scatter and it will be hard for them to hold on.... hopefully this means they don't migrate to less windy areas, but i'm not a pro at this situation

did the strips kill any of em? I was using scotch tape to put the little fuckers on the microscope slide, and it actually worked pretty well to pull the buggers off the leaves...

I have seen a ton of dead gnats, from the strips and the foggers, but every one of these other things (Thrips?) that I have seen has been alive and kicking.

I have a sealed room with 2 strips in it. I don't understand why they are not killing these bastards. I thought the pest strips killed pretty much everything. I guess not. I don't know what else to try.

1. sticky thrips leafminer trap
2. safer houseplant insect killer

will let you know if either works

any luck on ridding yourself of these little f****ers? I got rid of most of them, but they're so hard to see its hard to eliminate them all... only a few more weeks left before chop chop so I should be fine...

No.. no luck at all really. Even the Gnats are making a comeback. I drop a bomb in there and they will fall down and litter the floor. Then they are back in a few days. I've bombed the room about 8 times now with pythium. I have 6, yes SIX, hot shop strips in there as well, but they are still alive. the gnats and these other things.

not sure of what to do next. i am hoping the cold winter will finish them off. i can bring in some mighty cold air if need be. otherwise i am at a loss. maybe i will just use some regular raid bombs in there. at this point i will try anything

go to lowes and buy a hot shot no pest strip for 7 bux.. will cure your problem within a day, and all the egg's within 2 weeks

Another prime example of someone who doesn't read a (at least most of it) thread before posting... If you had read more of the thread you would of seen that they have used No Pest Strips and they did not work.

I am using the Doktor Doom foggers. They haven't worked, despite my using about a dozen of them at this point. I tossed in a Hot Shot fogger as well (the clean one with no residue), but that didn't work either. at a loss here. really don't know what to do. I am hoping that winter will take care of it. its a sealed room, but i am thinking about pulling in some cold air to try and kill them off. just not sure if the plants would die first or the bugs. i could get it really cold in there though.

yeah.. i literally have a half dozen of them in a 12x12 room right now. been in there for a couple of weeks. lots of dead gnats, but i still see some flying around. i had a carbon scrubber on initially and thought this might have reduced the effectiveness of the strips, but have since turned that off for 12 hours a day. still there are bugs.

amazingly, since i have the room sealed, 6 strips, and i can even smell the stuff myself (i hold my breath when going in there, but can defintely tell they are there).

just want to knock these bugs out somehow someway.


as for that foiler spray.. not gonna happen. i can't even reach many of my plants.. so no way could i spray them individually from top to bottom. just not possible.

is the grow room tidy and clean ? if not try to bomb pretty much everything in there , and the plants u cant reach are the hiding places when bombs come , if u are close to harvest just wash out with sprays what ever u have bombed with , harvest and put ur harvest in the fridge for 3-4 hours , if they persist let the buds stay in room temperature for a night and throw em in fridge again for 6 hours

Damn! Seems like you have a real battle on your hands! The pics you posted appear to be in the larva stage and they do live a portion of their life cycle in the soil, you may not be treating the soil effectively resulting in a re-infestation. As others have mentioned previously, food-safe spinosad pesticides are indicated as particularly effective but you'll have to make sure to: spray pesticides 2 to 3 times over a period of five days and continue to monitor to determine if continued applications are necessary. Eggs and pupal stages are unaffected by pesticide sprays, so make sure the spraying program lasts long enough to include emerging larva and adults, the thrip life cycle is 16 days.
