I always start my girls off in 5 litre mineral water bottles. There is no problem whatever, roots do NOT have light receptors, they grow fine until I repot them in larger tubs.
on one of my plants I used a 2 gallon laundry basket from the dollar store and lined it with one layer of cheap landscape fabric ... working very well, about 6 weeks into flower(in my sig). It does require more frequent waterings, but I dont mind that as I tend to overwater anyway and its basically impossible to overwater this plantop: that wont work. better idea is to use a big sheet of screen mesh (stuff for windows) and make it into a bag. layer it also so that no light gets through
so thats for hydro? Ive been thinking of doing a simple dwc, yeah, always picsView attachment 1214082 I make my own with a woodburning tool.. just heat it up and punch holes. I grow DWC. I put clones directly into the 6" pots and they stay there till harvest. During veg they are not blacked out.. I let the roots fill the pots- then they are set in totes and the roots fill my res.. I'll take pics if you're interested when lights come on.
my iced grapefruit , in a landscape fabric lined, 2 gallon laundry basket is about 9 weeks or so into flower, over 3 feet tall(after supercropping the top 12-14 inches or so) and looking very nice yieldwise so Id say a definite success, very easy to keep a good level of moisture in the pot since it dries out quicker and more evenly since air/water permeable fabric is over 60% oof the pot surface, you can see pics of it in the link in my sig. The only drawback Ive found? the pot is too light! even when wet it can barely stand upright, the plant is braced against a wall leaning against it, should have tied it up probablyon one of my plants I used a 2 gallon laundry basket from the dollar store and lined it with one layer of cheap landscape fabric ... working very well, about 6 weeks into flower(in my sig). agreed, however I will ppoint out that I think one of the reasons people argue against clear containers is that the light could promote algae /fungi growth? althoug I would guess that wouold apply only if they were in the same planter for a couple - three months?Another LOAD of BS all round thread.
Roots do NOT have light receptors of any kind - MJ, and other plants grow perfectly well in any translucent container. I ALWAYS start my girls off in ex mineral water bottles with no problem at all.
Once again we have people reading or SURMISING something that they just have not tried.
