I got a HPS bulb but i dont want to have to go out and buy an expensive transformer. Is there any way i can go to Home Depot and buy a socket or somthing that i can screw that baby into?

You can buy a security light fixture with a ballast built into it for about $70 at home depot i think. It would be better to just spring for a ballast. I have seen digital ballast for $149 Brite Ideas Hydroponics and... . I paid $230 for mine. The ballast will put out more lumen's than the security light fixture.

I have a 400w Super HPS with my ballast and hood. I am not sure the size of the bulb in the security light fixture but i think they have them in higher wattages. I have read post that people have used them and have seen them in the lighting section @ HD.

they don't. hd and lowes carry up to 150w hps (i saw a 250w ONCE).
you'll need a ballast, they can be found barebone, and are cheap that way
