HPS Lamps

Is there a way to prevent the HPS lamp from getting so hot? Im paranoid of infra-red shit being pointed my way during the operation. Also scared of fires. Is there anything special you can buy to prevent these things? Like.. is there a product that reduces the heat?

yes point a fan at the lite blowing away from your grow room.or put a glass screen over your hps,and a fan to blow out the hot air.
and get some sun glasses, i wear them when i go near the lites,
what set up have you got.

I got a 1000watt HPS & MH Lamp. Bought some reflector that helps with cooling the lamp to. I don't know how many plants I am gonna go with yet though. Any suggestions?

the air cooled reflector doesnt do anything without a fan wth some venting running to it im pretty sure

you should get a big inline fan 6 or 4 inch depending on the size of reflector i guess

that should drop your temp by at least 10 degrees

not like an oscilating fan you wpould put in your office im talking a bbig loud fuckler that really moves some air

Well.. here is another question I have about HPS lamps. I have a spare bedroom that I plan on doing my project in and I was wondering what would be minimal grow-room size for a 1000watt hps? I mean, I don't want to use the entire room and I definately don't want to be stuffing a hotass hps into a closet. Thats asking for trouble.

1 1000watt HPS will do an area of about 6' x 6'. If you are that worried about IR detection get some mylar and cover everything in your grow space with it.

Would this work out with a 600watt? I plan on boarding up the opening but Im gonna customize it so I can open it to enter. Do you think im going to have alot of heat issues?

I don't think mylar will protect IR detection. I remember seeing some stuff online that was supposed to work but it was way more expensive than mylar.

Also, you can get inline fans that are relatively quiet. I got a good 6" for about $250, and while you can find them for cheaper, this thing moves a ton of air and is quieter than my oscillating.

Kids? How do you figure that I have kids? Oh wait.. your probly referring to the baby shit in the closet. And no, those are my nephews toys. =D I wouldn't grow around children.
