did you change the ducting? the hydrofarm ducting is crap. Dont buy "hydroponic" ducting go to home depot its much more heavy duty. You actually need scissors to cut through it and wire cutters for the metal part. Or you can go a step further and get the fancy ducting. I payed the extra fee for that, its ducting with an elastic black plastic over the ducting that is very elastic so it holds the ducting in place. I can connect it to fans and lights without tape or metal seals if i wanted to. offcourse i seal it so its airtight.

looks like a great start. my sugestion would be to blow the air out threw the lights instead of sucking because you are sucking tons of heat threw your fan i.e. making fan run hotter and shortens its life. hope this makes sence keep up the good wrk

i have seen some really sick grows with light movers. they really do make a huge difference. many people compare it to growing outdoors, the lights move over the plants much like the sun does throughout the day. when we grow indoors, we forget that plants dont need constant bombardment from an hid light over head. there are many advantages to using light movers. you can grow more plants in a bigger area, especially with your 1k lights. it looks like you could grow in two rows with two lights in each row. set one light mover on the lead light on each row and chain the second light on the pulley track so the two lights move together. not only can you use more space, but you can put the lights much closer to the plants because the are constantly moving and dont have a chance to fry your plants. i would seriously look into it it could be the key to getting that 1g/w you are shooting for.

Thanks for the idea. I think its time to call our hydro guy and find out some prices. I was thinking it could be extremely usefull in our veg room running a 600 hps we have or maybe run 3 1000's right now and run 1x1000 MH on a mover over about 40-60 plants. Then we could flower after 2 months with 4 1000's!

We did we got new ducting from hydrofarm. We have looked for ducting at lowes, HD, Osh, ace hardware, etc. with no luck of 8". This stuff actually works fine for us. The problem we had was that we did not have enough slack in and it was tight and ripping. Now it looks like it should hold well. As for our seals I think they are all extremely tight.

Thanks for the encouragement. Your suggestion about the hot air being sucked through the fan does make alot of sense. I never thought about that before. I think we will run it through this flowering and find it a new home after were done. I will say however that the lights are cool the the touch on any point (glass, metal, etc.) and only raises the temp in the room by 3 degrees F. Still for longevitiy cold air would probably be best.

nice setup. I would reccomend running the lights at night to keep temps down and avoid the need for a heater or at least limit it. you shouldn't need a 15,000 btu heater during the day and if it is too cold at night with lights on then add more lights. Also i would reccomend switching over to a coco drain to waste system next run. I just changed over from dirt to coco and the difference is HUGE! Also with a DTW coco setup you wont get lockout like happens in soil. Just my .02

We are currently running the lights from 10:00PM to 10:00AM.

As far as the coco we are currently using a coco/soil mix and slowly making the switch over to Happy Frog simply because more people use it and we have heard more good things about it.

those little heaters are very inefficient(amp wise)... i would keep the heater on its own circuit. as for the lights you should be fine on one 15a outlet.

The heater is needed up here and it has a thermostat so we aren't worried to much about it. There are a few small fans on the same circut and the 725cfm 8" fan. Could a 600 go on there too?

if you want to cut down on the use of the heater, then you can vent the lights back into the room, dispersing the heat evenly. this is beneficial for a few reasons, 1 during colder temps you can warm the room without having to overload your circuit with the heater, and 2 this creates a closed system which allows for the application of a c02 supplement system which could really improve your yields on the scale you are growing at. so basically instead of spending more money on heaters or electric, invest in a c02 system and your money will be working with you instead of trying to fix a problem.

We really want to get a c02 system but our budget is at its max right now. We are at about 4 grand(will go into details about what we paid in a later reply) total and have no more to spend on it. After first harvest we are definitely getting c02 though.

yeah i should have figured as much. at least your not in too deep 4 gs on your size grow seems about right. just think about it like this in order to break even you have to produce about .5g/win your 4k flowering room depending of course on your local market.

Hey everyone! I'm seanwinsall's roommate. I'm working with him on this whole grow step by step.

We are super excited. We just noticed today that our Blue Dreams have pre-flower on them. Heres a few pics.

We are going to start flushing tomorrow. We are doing 1 day with just water at the right ph. We will start flowering in 2 days. Can't be more excited!
