As many as you want. The more you grow, the less time you have to veg for.
Id say 10 to 20.

as many as you want? not good advice, if you throw 20 maturing plants under 400w the buds would be SMALL.........grower 1991 have you had much experience growing or is that just a total guess......i am curious because i grow with cfls, due to lack of space. but ive done plenty of research on all lighting.:peace:

10 to 20 plants? your just saying throw them all in and the 400 watt hps would give them sufficient light? how long does the flowering stage last to get a good amount of yield, these are random seeds for sure.

half ounce to an ounce from each plant would be a ballpark. lots of little things play into the totall outcome of the yield. ya just post a pic and ill take a looksi

they look awesome goodtimes!! very full and healthy looking, you are right on track. the general rule of thumb for transplanting, when the plant is the same size or larger than the container it is in, then its time to transplant. so if let those veg for about 2 more weeks, then transplant, then its time to flower. unless you want some huge bushes then wait another 3-4 wks to start flower. hope this helps

I've grown a bit. I've never used 400wt, but I do have a lot of experience with 1000 wt hps. I suggested a higher number of plants to maximize the production. The grow space is 5 feet by 5 feet, right? Thats a big space for one light. Instead of growing a few plants(which might not be good, considering you have unknown seeds) grow lots of plants. Move them around to rotate who gets the best light. Smaller plants mean less veg time, therefore less time in between harvests.
I have personally grown 40 plants under a 1000 watt HPS light, no CO2 in a 4 foot by 4 foot space for just over a pound per harvest.

was thinking, to clone them once they get a bit bigger and than test the clones to see if they are male or female... than i can decide what to do with the mothers.

how long does it take for a clone to reach flowering stage? and could the clones be placed under a 400 watt hps?

yes for maximum production i guess that would work. most people on this site grow for personal use only. so for us its kinda quality over quanity. :peace:

Or you could grow 8-12 plants a little bigger to yield a pound and not have nearly as much work...:joint:

With a 400w HDS

You want to be growing five plants max spaced within a square meter.

Grown correctly and with good seeds (PPP) (Snow White) for example you should be yeilding 1.5 ounce per plant comfortably.

hope this helps, KB:blsmoke:

how many plants can be flowered in a 5x5 area utilizing a 400 watt HPS light? Thanks
Let's see if I understand this right! You want to use one 400 watt HPS light to flower a 25 square foot area?

That's only 16 watts a square foot - so I would say "None!".

Actually, you would do better with about 9 square feet and reflective (mylar) walls to hold in all the usable light. Start with about 9 plants maximum.
