A Word On Prohibition Lobbying.

I have noticed in recent months that there has been an increase in prohibition lobbying. One of their favorite things to say about marijuana is how is can cause Cancer and Tachycardia.

First of all I'd like to kill the cancer threat right off the bat. It is a proven fact that more people in the U.S. contract cancer through the use of Tobacco than any other cause known to man. Seriously, a person can get cancer simply from living in a large city and breathing poor air quality day after day. They have no leg to stand on, the way I see it.

As for Tachycardia, that is a different story. People claim that the use of marijuana is directly related to Tachycardia. In case you don't know Tachycardia is an electrical imbalance of your heart that causes irregular beating or fluttering. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/tachycardia/DS00929 (Be sure to read: Definition, Symtoms, Causes, Risk Factors, Complications)

I smoked marijuana for 5 years, and the only symtoms of "tachycardia" I experienced were during the use of an anti-anxiety prescription medication. After all, anti-anxiety medications can be very tricky. Anyone who has taken one in their lifetime can tell you this. Some people experience a sedated effect, others experience a hightened sense of their fight or flight response. (Survival Instinct)

How messed up is that? A pill that is supposed to help your anxiety can actually make it worse! No thanks I'll stick to an herbal remedy :)

When I reviewed my symptoms with my doctor, I found they were more directly related to panic attacks than tachycardia. People who claim that use of marijuana causes tachycardia clearly don't know their facts, or have something against it's use in general.

I believe that stress, panic or anxiety associated with the use of marijuana is directly related to it's prohibition. If a person uses marijuana, one may fear incarceration and stiff fines. This is enough to cause panic in anyone.

Imagine if coffee was outlawed. Would you feel comfortable walking down the sidewalk with a hot coffee in your hand if you knew it could land you in prison?

When marijuana is used in a safe location such as an Amsterdam coffeshop with no prohibition or hassle of law enforcement all stress, panic, or anxiety become virtually transparent.

Same here, I also have very shallow breathing sometimes when I'm high and forget to breathe altogether.

I support prohibition because I'm sick of negro's looking twice at our white womens, and not because one hit of a marijuana cigarette also known as a joint could lead to instant death.

@Budz: Heart fluttering has nothing to do with the use of marijuana. You may have a pre-existing condition. Many people who have pre-existing conditions related to their heart and lungs may not notice any symptoms. Unfortunately for them, smoking, wether it be Tobacco or Marijuana can and most likely will bring on a negative reaction to it's use. Example: Some people who have a condition of the heart such as Tachycardia will see no symptoms. Once they smoke they immediately notice negative side effects that closely resemble their condition.

@Fitch: You may also have a pre-existing condition. If you do, it is most likely a chemical imbalance in your brain. Afterall, it is common knowledge that transmitters in our brains control how we as people control our breathing. However, you may not have a condition at all, perhaps you are among those people who react negatively to smoking. Not everyone can smoke comfortably. It is a drug, and everyone has a different biological reaction to each drug they consume. In my case, I am positive my negative side effect were brought on by the use of anti-anxiety medications in sequence with marijuana. As I stated, I smoked for 5 years, and the only time I ever experienced negative side effects were during the period I was taking the anti-anxiety prescription.

@Doc: I am not sure if I should take any of what you said seriously. I am truely puzzled.

Side Note: There seems to be a general agreement that many of these smoking symtoms occur due to the heavy use of highly potent strains of marijuana followed by an absence of use. It has been said that the negative side effects have happened after beginning again after the short absence. I would have to disagree, simply because this has never happened to me. Clearly it does not happen to everyone. In my experience, when starting to smoke after a short break, the only difference is that I got significantly higher than I used to. No added side effects. The only negative side effects I have ever experienced were induced by the use of anti-axiety medications. In fact many prescription medications have a warning stating you should not use herbal products while taking their medication. Well, marijuana is most certainly an herb!

I also know it has nothing to do with how much you smoke. From the age of 16 I smoked from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep. Not once did I have more than a case of dry mouth or the munchies. Prescription medications interacted very poorly however. If you do not take prescription medications, you should be aware of what you let into your body while using marijuana as it has still not been recorded which things interact negatively with the drug.

That was one of the cited reasons for prohibition. I'm too lazy to be an activist, and even I know that.

@Doc: I am aware that was one of the first reasons stated for it's prohibition, however I didn't start this thread to discuss why it became prohibited. This thread is meant to push for a lift on prohibition. I realize a single post in an online message forum isn't going to influence a major change in the prohibition of marijuana. The hope is that there will be enough people both online and offline pushing for a lift on the cruel laws against the harmless plant, that it will eventually have a large enough influence to make some sort of difference. Isn't that a goal of any true activist?

Check out what these people are doing to alert people to the evils of prohibition. Lots of compelling trial video. I hear there will be a big 420 event at the State capitol 4/20/11. Wouldn't it be nice if EVERY state did that this coming year?

@Rob: That is a fantastic website. This is exactly the type of support we need in order to lift the prohibition. I strongly believe Patricia is innocent. I myself live in Cheshire County, just south of the county where she was held for trial. I hope during the appeal we see some major improvements in the state's corrupt system.

I have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and Panic Disorder. These ailments are very similar to bi-polar disorder in many ways. I can relate very closely with her daughter. I have thought of moving to another state many times to avoid such stiff penalties. In the past I have used marijuana to alleviate many symptoms of my two conditions. It was extremely effective. When I would visit my doctor he would tell me I seem to be doing much better, and he would ask me what I was doing. I told him a was smoking marijuana, well he just happens to be against the use of marijuana, and urged me several times to stop and try different prescription medications. I did try them to amuse him, and for my own curiosity, but later found they did more harm than good.

I have not smoked marijuana for nearly 1 year now, and I am suffering daily from the symptoms of my conditions. The only true relief I have ever had came from smoking marijuana. The only reason I don't smoke is for fear of incarceration. I have two young children and other people who love me and need me. They hate to see me so miserable, but I know they would hate to see me locked up even more. I would use prescription meds if I knew they wouldn't harm me, but the fact of the matter is, I do know they will harm me. In fact, if you name any anti-depressant or anti-anxiety prescription medication, I guarantee I have tried it within the past 7 years. Once again, the only single drug that has ever truely helped me is marijuana.

^^^ Glad you like the website. Sounds like Patricia is innocent of harming any another person certainly, in a sane world that should be all that matters.

It's good to hear you've found medicinal purposes for Cannabis. Not so good that the threat of incarceration still exists for many.

Just a thought...

I'm sure I can speak for almost everyone who is pro medical marijuana when I say... Why the hell can't our federal governement just legalize it as a medicine? If there were sufficient research labs and enough strains available to run tests on, those who need it could go to a dispensary or compassion club and find the exact strain that would work for them. Just imagine if every single state in the country had that. One place where they evaluate your medical needs, distribute ID cards, cultivate and provide medical marijuana to those who need it.

Idealy the jars containing the cannabis would be labeled accordingly.

Something Like:

Name: BC Bud Blueberry
Genotype: 80% Indica / 20% Sativa
THC: 13%
CBD: 1.5%
Cerebral Effects: Relaxed mind, creative, talkative, mildly sleepy. Etc...
Physical Effects: Mild muscle relaxation, joint pain relief. Etc...
Recommended Use: To relieve negative symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Insomnia, Nausea. Etc...

(The above is purely an example, and in no way represents the actual effects or chemical potency of the strain described.)

However, I think it would be extremely awesome to someday soon see dispensaries all over america doing this. We would know what's in it, what it does to you, and how it can help you.
