Thanks, that's where I did it. It's been a day or so since I've topped them and I can already see the side branches beginning to shoot out.

I also took sfsurfer's advice and tied the stem up a bit on the plant that I LST'd.

It's already started to reposition it's leaves toward the light. I still need to move the fan leaves around a bit to get light where it counts.

I'm heading over to that LST thread now to read up on it.
Everything is looking great! Just remember when you tie around the stem that it needs to be untied and retied every few days or so to allow the stem to expand and grow. If you leave it too long the string will choke the plant. I like to place two holes about 3 inches apart on he bucket and loop a string through the holes and around the stem so it is supported by the string but can also grow uninhibited. The plant seems to really be taking to the topping, keep up the good work!

Ah I see. If I topped at the 2nd node, can anything be done with the top that's taken off, like reroot it or is it not worth the time?

I'm guessing that I'll just end up with 2 instead of 4 colas then.
Yep you can clone it if its big enough! You will probably get 2 main tops and then the other 2 will be a little shorter if you don't lst the 2 taller tops that is..

you can try, the tops are harder to root and im sure it is a small top. and as for you top well you could end up with any where from 3-8 or more main tops, i did ubs way on half my plants and got the 4 main tops, then i topped the others at the 3rd node and they had any where from 5-8 tops some had a branch that only made it half way up but i still ended up with more tops then at the second node

when you got 3-8 tops, were they thick hearty tops compared to just the four. were your four main tops chunky?

i did not notice much of a difference int he thicknesses, but then again i wasnt really looking for them. i did have one plant that was noticeably lanky but i think it was just a shity strain cuz it was unknown and most my plants never got to lanky

Nice tip, I had a hell of time trying to tie the string around the stem of the plant.

Yea, my top was pretty small. I was just wondering because I didn't want anything to go to waste if it could be potential bud. All of the plants are doing well so I'll be posting some updated pics here soon.

I'm working on my flower room ventilation and had some questions. My grow space is 273 cubic feet, how often should this be completely exhausted or should I run my exhaust fans all the time?

I copied and pasted this but it should help you out.

Each fan has a rating that tells you how many cubic feet of air per minute (CFM) it will move. When dealing with above average temperatures you will want your fan to exchange the grow room air 3-5 times in one minute, so for a room that is 40 cubic feet, a fan that is capable of moving 120-200 cfm (cubic feet per minute) is recommended. If you only want to replace depleted levels of co2 and are growing in a closet using fluorescents, one room change per five minutes (divide room size by 5) will be adequate.

To calculate your room size, multiply Width by Length by Height, this will give you the CFM rating required for one room change per minute.

Air that’s exhausted will be replaced by fresh air, which is drawn from

Passive Intakes-
located opposite the exhaust at the floor of your grow room (Recommended for closet grows) or forced in using another blower (recommended for larger grow rooms).

For internal circulation oscillating fans are In my opinion the most efficient devices for circulating air in a room. The gentle back and forth sway of the fan is very beneficial for the developing plants. These fans tend to keep anaerobic moulds down by constantly freshening any potentially stagnant air. Home improvement centres carry a large array of various types and styles of air-moving fans, there are wall-mounted styles available and most are relatively inexpensive.

NOTE: To convert CFM to CMH use the folowing formula CFM X 0.03 X 60 = CMH

HUGE UPDATE

My curiosity got the best of me and I went out and picked up an AirPot. It was $4.85 + tax, a bit more expensive than a regular old pot but if it works as well as I've heard and read than it'll be a little extra well spent.

P1030165.jpgP1030166.jpgP1030167.jpg

I've got some some seeds germinating so the first one that sprouts gets to be the guinea pig.

The rest of my plants seem to be doing well, 21 days old.

P1030170.jpgP1030171.jpg
P1030172.jpgP1030173.jpg

They're about 4 inches tall which seems pretty short to me, but what do I know??

P1030174.jpg

Here's my LST'd plant, you can see the top beginning to really stretch back up. I still want to move some of those fan leaves a bit to get more light to the axial branches (is that what they're called?).

P1030176.jpgP1030175.jpgP1030177.jpgP1030178.jpg

The second set is doing great as well. The first pic is the slowest growing and I have no idea why. The first leaf set started to yellow even though everything else seems fine.

P1030179.jpg

Here's a result of one of my 'topped' plants. I'm not sure this is topped, but rather FIM'd, because the leaves are starting to grow back, but with an obvious 'cut' to them. We'll see what happens.

I forgot to add that I put a small desk fan in with my plants. I can already tell a difference it's making. My temp is a constant 79F with lights on and around 70-73F off. There's a noticeable increase in growth whenever I check on them. Everything's in the details.

My temps have recently went from mid to high 80's to high 70's low 80's and I've noticed an increase of growth aswell!! They really love the mid 70's range :)

THe girls look good, that air pot is pretty neat looking! I'm curiuos to see how that works for you.

the plants are looking good man, i thought the air pots had a bottom like the sides are, looks like dirt would fall through those bottom gaps, im sure it will be fine though. and ya the last pic is more of a fim if it was topped it would have all been taking off

It took a while for me to get my temps dialed in but it seems steady now. I'm anxious to see what the Air Pot can do. I'm going to try and do a side by side comparison whenever I can make some space.

That was my first impression about the bottom of the pot too. We'll see how it works in the coming weeks. As for the FIM, oops. I know for next time.

I've heard nothing but good things so far about them too, but I want to see personally what it can do, to justify the extra money (5 gal is $14.95).

smart pots are the same concept, and i think they are around the same price, im sure it makes a difference to the roots, the main differnec i think is that you can grow a healthier plant in a smaller pot

you should check out smartpots

nice sig
Ah, maybe I can grab one of those for a side-by-side with the air pot. I'd never heard of air pruning before a week or so ago. Maybe it's just the newb in me that wants to experiment with EVERYTHING.

Thanks, I made it earlier today when I got bored.

So if you regularly flower in a 3 gallon container, what would you suggest the lowest smart/air pot volume be? I was thinking maybe a gallon less but I have yet to flower in even a regular container so I'm very ignorant to that aspect.

im currently using 5 gallon smart pots. theyre very sweet. that one you got looks like it may leak a lot. the smart pots sometimes leak out the sides, but they soak it up anyway
