I'm using 5 x 170w hybrids right now and my grow is easily on par with the HID i was running before through 20 days of flower so far. Cost wise I paid $349 for each light so when you figure in what a ballast, shade and 2 bulbs runs I'd say that running LED is actually quite in-expensive when you factor in the 10+ years of growing time, savings in power and cooling costs and no more bulbs to buy every 2 grows!

This whole post made me laugh so hard. Our grows are definitely not on par with each other. Okay okay I guess I got the advantage because my grow has 150 more watts than yours lmao.... BUT, you spent over $1400 more than I did on the light investment. Your "savings in power" chant is fucking retarded. You're still using 850 watts, it's not like the LED's use less power overtime ROFL. You win on the cooling costs..... i have to use a 30 watt window fan to aid in cooling my 1000 watt hps. And lastly, (i wasn't going to reply to you because I could care less what you use) you paid $1700 for lights..... A replacement bulb costs $70 and you can usually get a 1 year warranty included. Ahhhh I can go to sleep tonight rest assured I don't have to replace bulbs, i'm just out $1700....
LED's might have their benefits, but you need a huge investment in them to achieve the same with HID. I don't think it gets much clearer than that, but I guess that makes sense, because people like spending 500% more to achieve the same. They will drop in price years from now and technology in LED's will get even better, but that is definitely not today.
It's like buying a $200,000 lamborghini just to go around the track as fast as a $35,000 Evo can.

i used high quality leds at first. they work. reliable and no heat. but they just dont pack that punch that an hps can do. if your doing stealth i recommend it, otherwise HPS and MH work better no doubt about it. I also know the future is LED its just a matter of time for the pricing to go down and the spectrums and everything to get dialed in better. But for now HID is whats true and tested, save your money and dont drop a grand on lights that sorta work. In a few years im sure everyone will be using led but not today.
