mythbusters did a experiment on that. if I remember right they used different type of music. rap, death metal. they also used different type of talk. i.e.: praise and kind words, and hate and yelling. there way 4 or 5 different greenhouse they used for each. I don't remember what the outcome was. must have had some killer weed that week. I will go see if I can find the outcome on there site. if I find the results I post them here.

Sounds like a waste of electricity to me... you are already wasting your time, money on nutes, lights etc... I wouldnt waste any more than that. Theyll be just as happy if you are taking care of them well.

Ive actually heard that vibration can help your plants grow stronger branches...maybe thats what the music does actually...

But I get my plants moving with a fan.

I play metal in my room. I don't know how much different the plants are because of it. But it makes me happy when im working in there. Sometimes i switch it up for some fusion jazz. Small radio won't take much power. Like clock radio.

Years ago there was a study on wheat plants that people said was nuts. But it had results that could be duplicated, so it was NOT junk science. No one has ever understood the results, but here is what happened.

Scientist hooked a wheat plant up to a glorified lie detector. The scientist talked nice to the plant, and his buddies in the pot next to him. They "communicated" for several days. The detector had nice smooth lines. Then one day a "bad" man came into the room and started yelling at the plants. The lie detector needles went crazy. Next day, bad man comes in, and the needles did the same thing. Only this time the "bad" man pulled out a wheat plant, roots and all. Yelled at it, and then threw it on the floor and stomped on it. The monitored wheat plant went nuts and then appeared to "pass out" from shock.

Next day good scientists comes in and talks to his wheat again. The test plant looks "happy" with smooth lines from the needles. Then the scientist leaves and the bad man comes in and yells at the wheat. Test plant is upset. Then the bad man yanks out another wheat and stomps it. Test wheat "passes out" again.

Final day, good scientist comes in and wheat is happy. Bad man comes in, does NOT say anything. Just looks at the test wheat. It starts to panic and passes out, with nothing being said or done by the bad man.

Next a similar experiment with wheat and music categories. Wheat like gentle classic music.

Same experiment, this time with 4 day old, fertilized, warm eggs. Same results as with the wheat. The test egg, "passed out" every time one of his buddies was cracked open.

Playing music to plants

If the idea of talking to your plants still sounds bizarre, then even more dubious is the idea that playing music to your plants might help them grow. In fact, a number of people have released whole albums dedicated to providing maximum growth.
Back in the seventies, a nice lady named Dorothy Retallack published a book entitled The Sound of Music and Plants, which chronicled her experiments with playing music to plants. Always using a test group, she experimented with continuous tones, different volumes, different genres and differing play list lengths. Her results, if they can be trusted, are startling.
Retallack discovered that plants subjected to calm, soothing music in short busts not only grew quicker, but actually leaned towards the source of the sound. Plants listening to satan worshipping rock and roll (Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, for the record) actually leaned away and died. Amazing. Through a series of further experiments with different genres, Retallack concluded that plants like strings best, and loud percussion least

In the Mythbusters experiment the death-metal had the most profound impact in a positive way, when compared to the control group. Classical and kind words did worse than the control group.

lol roflcopter attack! I'm over here rofling til the wheels fall off on this issue. I play my plants some classic country music and they all died immediately....

that never really happened. I bet vibrations from heavy rock/hip hop act same as a fan does to increase stem strength etc.

I play a Buddhamachine to my ladies. Look it up, its a chinese 8 setting walkman with drone loops in it. It's cool! Plus read "The Secret Life of Plants" if you want to find out the shit on sound and plant growth, its a classic and well worth the 3 bux at the used book store. No scientific protocols but really good read and maybe an idea stimulator!
