1000W maverick sun lighting systems

I am about to purchase 20 1000w lights and have been searching around quite a bit. A local shop has 1000W maverick sun systems (includes xxl 8" vented hood, mh or hps bulb (my choice) and ballast) it is a switchable system and they will sell them to me for $240 each out the door.

My question are.

Has anyone used the maverick sun systems and if so what do you think of them?

Also is there another system out there that has the same quality or better for around the same price or maybe an even better one?

Here is a link to maverick sun's site

Don't forget that magnetic type ballasts use more power than electronic/digital ballasts. However the electronic/digital ballasts have problems with bulbs still. Also, do you need 240? Cause 20kV is enough to require its own transformer, maybe 3 phase would work better for you? If i was doing 20 lights i would run at least 240 if not 277/480. However, i would really look into this a xxxl hood its self runs (magnum from sun systems) $207. So that means if you buy this you are paying for the hood and getting everything else free. In fact do they have a website? i think at that price i will buy one (i wish 20 LoL) too.

I have spent over 30k at this shop so they hook me up with great prices on everything. I have done a ton of research and there just isn't a lot of info on maverick sun... I know it's a newer company but just have never used their products... I have been using hydrofarm but IMHO they are so over priced!!! And I do agree that 240 out the door is a great price. As for power I am adding a 200 amp sub panel and I already have a double 40 pole amp breaker ran to the shop. So I wil be fine with power. As for the digital ones, I am not a fan of them, they tend to "exaust the mercury over your plants" and none of us want our mess with mercury on them! I'm gonna stick with magnetic for a few more years!

I have three of the 8" superwide aircooled hoods - http://www.mavericksun.com/Reflectors6.htm - and they're alright. Side-by-side with cooltubes/double parabolic reflectors they're total shit though. They have good airflow but they're heavy as hell and the dealbreaker is the intense hotspot right below the bulb, guaranteed to burn plants even when the hood is freezing cold to the touch. It's the shape of the reflective surface inside the hood that causes the hotspots, there's nothing I can do to fix it but raise the lights to 20"-24" above the canopy, while I can have the cooltubes 12" above the canopy if I feel like it.

I also have a ballast, works well and no complaints except for the stupid mogul cord, but I just prefer standardized plugs for everything.

Have you tried a light spreader to get rid of the hot spot? Sun systems makes one (the equalizer) which i use with pretty good results considering i am running a cheap bat-wing reflector. Adjust-a-wing also has one, i just got the equalizer because they had one in stock at the local hydro store.
Back on topic, Street- I was not questioning how much power you have to your shop, none of my business, more my thoughts were the ability to run smaller gauge wires and more efficient (in theory) by doing 240v for the ballasts instead of 120v. I had never heard about the "exhaust the mercury over your plants", is that from the bulb or the ballast? Interesting, but i am pretty happy with my cheapo Chinese electronic ballast.

I've got two Raptors up so far, 8 inch, mongo big light footprint suckers, heavy beasts too, check out the chains.
Have a few more to hang in a week or so. Lumatek Dim-able ballasts with 1000 watt Sunmaster Neutral Deluxe M/H.

No problems with the bulbs. Ever. 600, 750, 1000 to Super Lumen setting.

Wired 240. 8,000 watts capable on the lights. Only running 4k worth this month.

yeah those hoods are HEAVY. the ballasts work great, nice and quiet switchable 110/240 & mh/hps, just make sure the feet and other nuts are tight.

IMO save spend double that amount and get a 400hps w/ digital ballast and cooltube. I can touch the glass on my 600w cooltubes and the light spread is great. Also they allow for great adaptability as the come with Wing Reflectors and the Inner Reflector is removable. They can hang horizontal or vertical and have a optimal flow through which allows for less CFM to keep them cool. Push air thru a box w/ two holes vs push air thru a tube and the difference is obvious.

Magnetic ballast are loud and give off more heat I would get a Phantom digital ballast , cooltube and a good bulb. I run 2 600w lumatek digital ballast w/ 2 cooltubes and 2 hortilux bulbs. https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/384835-swiftgrow-journal.html

hey street racer... i sure hope you plan on staggering those lights runtimes, because 20, 1000w lamps are going to pull about 110 amps, with 1/0 as your wire size, on a 125 amp breaker... though, to avoid nuiscance tripping, i would most defintly get a 150 amp breaker instead...

good luck!

damn man why dont you just go down to the city buy a retail licence and then buy all that at WHOLESALE price.... you said you spent 30 grand? a buiss lic. is a few hundred bucks...... My friend has a buis lic. anytime we want a bong, knife, crap like that we drive to the wholesale store and buy as if we are getting it for our store..... you gotta have a retail lic. or they wont sale it to you but if your spending that kinda money seems better to try and cut the middle man out.....

I should see if my friend can order me some grow stuff
